Legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon and his wife, singer Edie Brickell, were arrested over the weekend for disorderly conduct at their Connecticut home, police said Monday.

Police in New Canaan, Connecticut -- a suburb of New York -- said they went to Simon's home on Saturday night to "investigate a family dispute."

The 72-year-old Simon and the 48-year-old Brickell were arrested and released, after a call from the home reportedly made by Brickell's mother.

The couple then appeared before a judge in Norwalk, Connecticut briefly Monday; it was the first incident for the couple and no protective order was put in place.

Chief of police Leon Krolikowski told local journalists the incident was "minor" and both Simon and Brickell "are very nice people."

As they left the hearing Monday, Simon said "Edie and I are fine," adding they were "going to see our son's baseball game this afternoon."

Simon is a 12-time Grammy winner who shot to stardom as half of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, which produced hits like "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Mrs. Robinson."

The duo broke up in 1971, and Simon embarked on a solo career. Simon has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- as a member of the duo and as a solo artist.

Brickell, a folk rock singer born in Texas, married Simon in 1992. The couple has three children.

This year, Brickell took home a Grammy with Steve Martin for best American roots song: "Love Has Come For You."
