Riyadi vs Sagesse Basketball Championship Ends with a Fight

W460

The fourth game of the Lebanese Basketball Championship-Final on Tuesday between Riyadi and Sagesse witnessed an unfortunate fight, with a comprehensive 69-61 victory for the latter.

Reports said that on-the-court argument erupted between two opposite team players and tension escalated leading to a fight and fans dashed into the playground.

The Federation of Lebanese Basketball called for a special meeting on Wednesday afternoon to take the necessary measures against the backdrop of Tuesday's mishap between Sagesse and Riyadi.

Sports Minister Abdul Motleb Hennawi lamented in comments to the Voice of Lebanon radio on Wednesday and said that “what happened yesterday doesn’t show stability. The security situation must not be tampered with, and sedition must not be triggered.”

He assured “We will take the necessary precautions, and in my opinion the basketball championship must be stopped.”

To a question asked by LBCI TV presenter, Hennawi said that he cannot put the blame on a single party for triggering the fight until thorough investigations were run in the incident.

“Head of the Federation should take strict measures after their meeting today,” he added.

LBCI said that Lebanon's basketball championship is likely carry on but without any fans attending the game.

Well if we watch closely the Video.
First, there was a problem between the players and not the present public..
After that, for some reason, Ismael Ahmad unleashed his fury on the public. No matter what the reason is a professional player should never reply to any words form the public and this is a fact.
The problem didn't come from the public who should be bound from going on the basketball's floor after the end of the games (this could be easily achieved) but not bound from attending the game and if this is what will be done it will be a shame and a great loss for this wonderful series we are watching. The fans are a major asset to any sport and they should attend the match no matter what.

The first thing that happened is that Lauren Woods was highfiving Dewarick sPencer, but spencer raged all of the sudden, and ismael ahmad went crazy. This behavior is so not classy.

Ismail Ahmad "unleashed his fury" because he was attacked by raging fans who invaded the basketball floor. He was hit on the head, then he reacted the way he did.
As far as I'm concerned it is self defense, you can't just sit there and do nothing if you're being attacked.

Every single player involved in the fighting should be stopped for the at least two games (in this case, the rest of the season), and any of the players initiating the fight should be banned from the league. This would have been the case in any professional league in the world. Players are payed huge amounts of money not just to win championships but to represent the colors of their teams and what they stand for.
Sportsmanship and professionalism is a responsibility every player should be held accountable for.
Unfortunately history keeps on repeating itself in the League because such shameful events are never dealt with in an intransigent manner.

I don't watch Lebanese Basketball because of continuous political and religion problems especially between Riyadi and Sagesse.
Now I really don't know why the whole brawl began, but there are videos and if you look clearly, its obvious that after the brawl had started, many Sagesse fans were jumping into the court, and attacking Riyadi players. The guy Ismail Ahmad attacked, if you watch the video, he jumped over and smacked a Riyadi player which made Riyadi players furious.
