Iran Warns NATO against Drowning in Syrian 'Swamp'

W460

Iran on Sunday cautioned NATO against any military intervention in its main regional ally Syria, warning the transatlantic alliance that it “would drown in a swamp from which it would never be able to escape.”

“Syria is the spearhead of resistance in the Middle East and the NATO alliance cannot intimidate this country by waging an attack,” Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in an interview with the official IRNA news agency.

“Should the West decide to follow the same course it took in Iraq and Afghanistan, it will not be able to achieve the desired result,” Salehi added.

On Saturday, Salehi urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government to listen to the people's demands.

"The government should answer to the demands of its people, be it Syria, Yemen or other countries," the Iranian FM said.

The Syrian regime has sought to crush weeks of protests with brutal force, killing more than 1,600 civilians and arresting at least 12,000 dissenters, rights activists say.

Ha ha Mr. Ali Akbar Salehi. It has already been proven that a good air force can hit Syria. There is no swamp from the air directly in Syria.

This is Iran's way of saying they will blow bombs in Iraq and order the Hezz to strangle the good people of Lebanon.

Mr. Salehi.....the region rejects you, your Ayatollah, and the venom you have put in Arab countries. ASSad WILL go down, then the Hezz and Hamas, and Iran will be the big prize at the end.

The world know that Hexx snipers and Iranian Quds are killing Syrian people and Syrian soldiers who don't follow orders to shoot innocent people. Your was of doing business is your own undoing. All Arabs have rejected the Iranian doctrine.

This guy is one to speak about governments listening to their people. The Iranian government has a tin ear when it comes to listening to the Iranian people and Iran has promoted Hezbollah in Lebanonfor years against the wishes of the majority of the Lebanese people and in derrogation of the duly elected government of the Lebanese people.

His warning to to NATO is a barking dog warning. If NATO acts, Iran knows that it lacks all ability to stop NATO

It is equally true that without the military option, no amount of anything else willl stop the effort.

it is very educational how he brings up Afghanistan and Iraq and does not say Libya instread lol.. hahahaah... plus did he forget that thanks to the NATO iraq belongs to Iran and the Taliban lost Afghanistan (at least in the short term).

The Iraqi/afghan model does not pertain at all to the libyan/syrian cases where popular revolts are overthrowing the regime. He needs to talk about Libya/Bosnia as a good example, NATO there achieved strategic and very implicating success

STFU you terrorist funding, dictator supporting murderer. The west learned a lot in Iraq and Afghanistan. The can destroy any regime in a matter of days, but it takes years to rebuild using that method. Libya is the new model. The Libya model will work fine in Syria. NATO planes, bombs, and surveillance, plus smuggled arms to anti-regime citizens.

Iran is worried because their regime there is on borrowed time. After Assad falls, then the STL will prove Hezbollah killed Hariri, Gemayel, Tueni, Kassir, Hawi, Eid and others. The STL will also show Iranian involvement in those terrorist crimes. Two nails in the Ayatollah coffin.

You guys are digusting especially Gabby. quit hating, don't think the west wants what's best for you. they all have interests even Iran but stop the hatred, i can feel it dripping from you. can you not comment constructively? in addition to that you also sound like a zionist which i won't be surprised if you are. as for lebanon, no one want's what's best for our country, even the people themselves, it's a hopeless case. we've been trying for decades and there's no progress..

Thumb shab 29 August 2011, 12:12

Like the dictator and terror regimes in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iran, and the filthy non Islamic militia, you only have weapons to hold on to your power...your own people are against you. Id’s only a matter of time. People power

Thumb thepatriot 29 August 2011, 16:53

bla bla bla... Syria's next!
And then...guess WHO!??

Thumb thepatriot 29 August 2011, 16:54

@fadi

The zionist speech...again...are you friends with habal camel??

In case you haven't realized, it is the people of Iran who have been repressed with bullets, who's votes have been stolen, who are being jailed, and restrained to express their will.

Same with the people of Syria who are rebellious against a regime who has kidnapped their freedom of speech for the last four decades. This is not the will of the occident, it is the will of THE PEOPLE!

Shame on your pathetic self!
