Lebanese Army Colonel Antoine Abu Jaoude was sentenced Friday to seven years hard labor on charges of collaborating with the Israeli enemy.

“Presided over by Brigadier General Khalil Ibrahim, the Permanent Military Court issued its verdict against Colonel Antoine Abu Jaoude on charges of collaborating with the Israeli enemy,” state-run National News Agency reported.

According to the sentence, Abu Jaoude was handed seven years hard labor.

The colonel's lawyer Riyad Matar had demanded that his sentence be pardoned or commuted.

Abu Jaoude was arrested in early August 2010. He was charged with collaborating with Israel on August 18, 2010.

The military prosecution accused him of “meeting with Israeli Mossad officers outside Lebanon and giving them information about the resistance and the Lebanese Army in return for sums of money.”

Military Examining Magistrate Judge Riyad Abu Ghida demanded the death penalty for Abu Jaoude in an indictment issued in January 2011.

Surely giving information on an organisation operating inside the country, and not couynting iteself subject to the law of the country should be a matter for praise not prison.

Treason, is when someone goes against the rule of law in the country and amongst other things works to inform a foreign state regarding operations within the government of the country.
As far as I can read from the article, this person was working against an organisation which itself wants to take control of the Republic of Lebanon, i.e. are traitors themselves and he wants to aid the government.

I guess phillipo does not know about the law or how to read. Firstly, the military prosecution accused him of “meeting with Israeli Mossad officers outside Lebanon and giving them information about the resistance and the Lebanese Army in return for sums of money.” Secondly, Israel is a stated enemy of Lebanon and collaborating and spying for them is treason. If you want to redefine the word treason into something unrecognizable, it is your choice. For anyone sane and with a iota of logic, what this person is accused for is treason.

umiliation is the best medicine for some one who was a Lebanese colonel and sold out to mossad. Major traitor who was supposed to be loyal to the Lebanese army and its citizens.

Syria caused much more destruction in Lebanon than Israel ever did, yet Spying for Syria is encouraged.
Colonel Antoine Abu Jaoude saw in Israel an ally not an enemy, justifying his actions adopted the notion:'The enemy of my enemy is my friend'

How about H.A. for bringing to our shores the worse enemy that Lebanon has ever seen, Iran? Not that I give a crap about Israeli agenda.

Thumb geha 12 July 2014, 10:59

let us stop the bs:
- since different people are charged differently, this colonel should be freed.
- since iran is worse than Israel, we should try all those executing Iranian orders.

this is a farce of justice.....

If I am what you call a "sayan" can you please inform me as to where in the UK I can go to get my salary.
Living in the UK I don;t think there is much that information that I could give to Israeli intelligence, except perhaps the latest results of the Manchester City and United games.
Why is it that everyone who tries to write on a naharnet site, and doesn't agree with what other people say is automatically an - Israeli - Jew - what you call a "sayan", but never someone who keeps an open mind.

Because of you unfettered support for Israel, zionist.

No need; if the performance of Team England in the World Cup is any indicator, the results of ManCity vs. ManUnited are predictable: Both clubs lost.
