Eight local television networks overcame their political differences on Monday evening and aired a unified newscast in solidarity with war-battered Gaza, where at least 570 people were killed in 14 days of Israeli aggression.

"Gaza...you are not alone” was the title of the unified newscast, which got underway at 8:10 pm on all local channels. It kicked off with a tribute by renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish to his homeland. His voice glorified Palestine through his famed poem “Ala Hathihi al-Ard Ma Yastaheq al-Hayat” (On this Land, There's What is Worth Living For).

Afterwards, eight reports were broadcast, each prepared by one TV channel and shedding the light on different aspects of the Palestinian people's suffering.

The first report, prepared by Future TV journalists, showed how the people of Gaza were fighting for their lives during Ramadan, and hence were prevented from observing the holy month normally.

OTV then aired a report underscoring the pain Palestinian mothers have been suffering from during many years of Israeli occupation, as many of them have lost several children in the current and in past aggressions.

The third report was dedicated to the children of Gaza. MTV's journalist Mona Saliba highlighted how Palestinian kids have already lived through several rounds of violence and aggression and were hence forced to grow up too soon.

Israeli assaults on Lebanon were the focus of LBCI television's report. The channel's Layal Haddad visited the southern town of Marwahin that was the scene of an Israeli massacre in 2006. Haddad talked with four children who survived the 2006 war, and ended its report with footage of the four Palestinian kids who were bombarded to death last week while playing on a beach in Gaza.

Al-Jadeed television, meanwhile, introduced viewers to foreign militants who joined the ranks of the Palestinian resistance in its struggle against Israel.

The Hizbullah-affiliated al-Manar television traced the development of weapons used by Palestinian resistance from “rocks to rockets.”

The seventh report, prepared by the state-run Tele Liban, went over the history of the Palestinian resistance's fighting against Israel, noting that the resistance that “started with stones was militarized after the hearts of Arabs tuned into rocks.”

The last report, prepared by the NBN television team, portrayed how Palestinian refugees spread all over Lebanese camps are still living the pain and the suffering of their nationals in the occupied territories.

Just like the beginning, the unified newscast also ended with Darwish's voice chanting “Ayyouha al-Marroun bayn al-Kalimat al-Abira” (Passers between the Passing Words).

The unified newscast initiative was launched last week by As Safir newspaper's Editor in Chief Talal Salman in coordination with prominent Lebanese and Palestinian figures, and the step was hailed and endorsed by Information Minister Ramzi Jreij.

At least 570 people were killed in 14 days of Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strips, many of whom were children. Sunday was the deadliest day when at least 140 Palestinians were killed.

And since the Israeli operation began on July 8, huge numbers of Gazans have fled their homes, with more than 85,000 people taking shelter in 67 schools run by UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, a spokesman said.

Where are all of the clowns that usually comment on every article? Once I realized that the same 10 people were the ones leaving all of the comments, I felt like I was watching high school students bickering.

It's very nice to see the unification of so many people against the criminal activity and brutality that the Palestinians are dealing with. I feel so bad for the families that have suffered.

Missing coolmec 22 July 2014, 00:16

I wish our corrupt politicians can agree and work out their differences for the sake of the country and its suffering people

Shame on An-Nahar, a paper that I have read regularly since childhood and which I admire greatly, for allowing Israeli agents such as Veritas and Phillipo to post in this thread. Providing a propaganda forum for such agents of a state that Lebanon is officially in a state of war is treason. I wonder how legal it is.

Thumb _mowaten_ 22 July 2014, 13:00

agreed. and you can add asaf and canaan to that list

So you are another one who has never heard of FREE SPEECH.
Or if you have, it is only to be used when it agrees with your opinions.

Thumb _mowaten_ 22 July 2014, 16:39

free speech does not mean free reign for israeli propagandists to come spew their venom here.

Thumb _mowaten_ 23 July 2014, 10:12

thanks anonyme, and yes i think you're right, they're doing more harm to themselves by posting their propaganda here. cheers

Thumb smarty 22 July 2014, 00:24

Gaza ok, but what about our Lebanese heroes?

In this one rare demonstration of national unity from all political parties, the one dissonant voice is Israel and its agents- which is expected. Why do we have to be a propoganda forum for them since we are still in a state of war with Israel?

Thumb Machia 22 July 2014, 01:03

Israel has lost this war and they have lost their minds. They are killing innocent kids, women and civilians.
They are the criminals, the terrorists, the brothers in arms of Bashar Assad.
They are the bad guys that kill children.
In a universal (and not Western) good vs bad scale, Israel is the monster here.
The racism against Arabs in Israel is second to none. For the Israelis, the Arab not human and like an ant he deserves to be stepped on.

Thumb Sanelebanese 22 July 2014, 06:56

What did the Palestinians accomplish in resisting Israel? Death, isolation, poverty, suffering, loss of identity x 60 years. Is not it more dignifying to co-exist!

Missing phillipo 22 July 2014, 07:13

Sanelebanese - you are perfectly correct, although you could also say the same "Is not it more dignifying to co-exist" if you were refering to Lebanon.

Thumb Machia 22 July 2014, 07:14

I totally agree with you. But Likud's Israel does not want to co-exist with the Palestinians.
They want it all.

Thumb cash.puppet 22 July 2014, 14:23

Phillipo i seem to recall a bunch of lebanese men who kicked you off our land without the need to "co exist" with a bunch of murdering scum like yourself. Remember that, boy?

Thumb ice-man 22 July 2014, 08:06

@ashrafieh: do you still live in dahieh?

Thumb _mowaten_ 22 July 2014, 13:01

can't you recognize your own ice-boy? "ashrafieh" is an israeli

Israel isn't doing a tiny fraction of what Ass.d is doing to his own people to his own brethren..For every 100 the Israelis have killed, Bashar has killed 10000 of his own felllow citizens, children women, in the most sadistic and hateful way ! What Israel hasn't done the Hizb has: elminitating the best breed of Lebanese politicians under pay and money from the basij ! Let them go to hell, and may the fire they ignite consume their evil spirits and rotten corpses!

Thumb _mowaten_ 22 July 2014, 13:09

first that is not true, but anyway, how would that excuse israel in any way? would you say hitler killing a few million jews is okay because staline killed 60 million people?

This land is for no one. We are all visitors. Share your life not your death. The last 5000 years of documented history is a proof of human stupidity.

The only reason people like you Southern hate Israel is that it shows up the way the Arab world is sunk in their inter-religious battles, how they prefer to spend their income (such as that from oil) on weapons, luxuries for the few instead of housing, jobs, infrastructure etc.
Take your beloved Lebanon, how many years are you behind Israel is the search for natural gas in the Med., co-operation could have brought Lebanon 10 years forward, but you prefer to argue with each other about the income from this project, with a result that the Lebanese people still have regulasr black-outs.
You are jealous of Israel, because her scientists keep winning Nobel Prizes, and yours........?
You are jealous of Israel, because she has absorbed 800,000 refugees from the Arab States, whilst you keep the same number of refugees in camps, refruse them citizenship, refuse them job, and then wonder why they are militant.

Thumb Machia 22 July 2014, 07:21

Fun animation but tell this to the children of Gaza.

Thumb ice-man 22 July 2014, 08:20

Thumb kanaanljdid 22 July 2014, 08:21

170 000 Syrians didn't have this chance. Nor the Iraki Christians.

What about FUTURE TV?
Not participating in such a national event only leads to one conclusion... it's the FUTURE LEBANESE ZIONISTS TV!

Thumb EagleDawn 22 July 2014, 11:16

The first report, prepared by Future TV journalists, showed how the people of Gaza were fighting for their lives during Ramadan, and hence were prevented from observing the holy month normally.

you are not very "wise" are you?

Missing phillipo 22 July 2014, 10:14

Machia -"But Likud's Israel does not want to co-exist with the Palestinians. They want it all."
If that were the case, why did all Israelis, army & civilians, leave Gaza in 2005, 9 years ago, hoping that this would be the first step to bring peace to the region.
Instead of that all Israel got was rockets, rockets and more rockets, with Hamas stating in their charter that they would never recognise Israel.

Missing phillipo 22 July 2014, 12:56

"At least 570 people were killed in 14 days of Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip"
And you are now going to say that not a single one of them was carrying arms, not a single one of them was shooting rockets into Israel, not a single one of them was caught coming out of the tunnels inside Israel, because if so, how did 27 Israeli soldiers get killed?

Thumb _mowaten_ 22 July 2014, 13:12

if a "single one of them was carrying arms", does it make it okay to kill hundreds and hundreds of innocent civilians?
take your filthy israeli propaganda elsewhere, it's not working here and trying to justify this massacre only makes us hate you more.
