Pro-Palestinian Fans 'Attack' Israeli Players

A pre-season friendly between Maccabi Haifa and French side Lille had to be abandoned Wednesday when a group of pro-Palestinian supporters invaded the pitch and attacked some of the Israeli players.

Lille said on its Twitter feed that the referee called a halt to the game after a group of youths, waving Palestinian flags and placards, ran onto the pitch at the Austrian venue with just three minutes of the game left.

After a series of brief scuffles, the protestors were led away by security officers and the game called off with the French side 2-0 ahead at the time.

"Maccabi Haifa Football Club believes in coexistence, tolerance and is against violence," a club statement given to the Jerusalem Post read.

"We denounce the violence that was used against us. This didn't happen because of sport or football, it happened because we are a team which represents Israel."

"We denounce the violence that was used against us. This didn't happen because of sport or football, it happened because we are a team which represents Israel." Ok fair enough. May be you should have had the moral backbone to say something about the 3 kids that were killed on the beach on Gaza playing football or the hundreds of civilians being killed by the country you represent. While one should be opposed to act of hooliganism, one should be far more offended and opposed to the acts of mass murder that is being committed by the state of Israel.

Correction Arab Democrat, Israel is not a Occupational State. I wonder if Netanyahu will ever realize this. I won't hold my breath though.

About the players they didn't deserve this even though they represent Israel I am sure they are opposed to the war, One would like to think so at least. Secondly hooliganism should be opposed in all sports. Its the gov. leaders who should be speaking up against the brutality against children being hurt, not just in GAZA but world wide. Look at the kids in syria , and what about iraq , Africa etc. Saddened by the actions of world leaders.
