Geagea Downplays Nasrallah-Jumblat Meeting

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea played down a recent meeting held between Hizbullah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat.

The meeting has no political meaning, Geagea told An Nahar newspaper published on Monday.

It was held to show the positive aspects of the ongoing ties between them, he said.

The two parties announced on Sunday that Nasrallah discussed with Jumblat the need to elect a president as soon as possible and to boost coordination among security agencies.

Geagea denied in his remarks to An Nahar that there were developments in the presidential deadlock.

He accused the March 8 alliance of not showing signs on its readiness to discuss the candidacy of any person other than Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun.

Unlike the LF chief, Aoun has not officially announced his candidacy, saying he would do so only if there was consensus on him.

But the March 14 alliance, which has given its support to Geagea, has refused to back Aoun.

The dispute between the two camps left the presidential palace vacant after Michel Suleiman's six-year term ended on May 25.

Aoun “is still holding onto his stance,” Geagea said, accusing him of paralyzing the election of a president for not accepting anyone else to reach Baabda Palace.

The March 14 alliance is not ready to discuss “plan B” not because it refuses to do so but because the March 8 camp has rejected to change its stance, Geagea said.

Several March 14 officials, including the LF leader, had repeatedly said that they would discuss the possibility of backing the candidacy of a March 14 figure other than Geagea if March 8 expressed readiness not to boycott the elections.

Politicians, wake up! the presidential vacuum is not the problem, but is a result of the real problem which is that the Lebanese society has 2 controversial cultures created by an outdated and unjust constitution which states that some Lebanese (based on religion) have more rights than others;obviously in a modern democratic world such conditions are ridiculous, and should change.

Geagea is absolutely correct; the meeting was between two obstructionist, conspirators, and murderers.

Geagea said exactly what I said yesterday, this meeting has no meaning. Jumblatt and Nasrallah just met up yesterday to play towleh and have a casual conversation about Gaza (notice how they didn't talk about Mosul). Meanwhile, Geagea is being very consistent in his stance by not saying anything about the Palestinians. Him, along with Gemayel, are downplaying all this Gaza talk, simply because it's none of Lebanon's business. Now all the Hezbo-Aounist psychopaths are gonna ridicule me for being a Zionist. But at the end of they day, electing a president is our priority, and Geagea and Gemayel are the only two who seem to be focused on that.

Well said nickjames, unfortunately the m8 marketing dept shares the same logic as their masters. That is you are either with us or we try to discredit your posts not by counter arguments but by personal attacks or obstruction. I am yet to read a credible argument as to the logic of aoun and co desecrating our democratic process. And with six years to put forward a new election platform not at all suspicious that it was miraculously given birth as a bargaining chip by our favourite obstructionalist.

Yeah I got into a huge argument with them about Gaza. They're trying to defend Hamas for not sheltering its people by arguing the weight of Israeli bombs and the size of the tunnels. It's comical. Check it out

Southern, well whatever his paymasters are making him say is right. I commend these paymasters. Let Israel and Hamas worry about Gaza, and let Lebanese worry about electing a president.
