Iran: Hamas 'Brought Israel to its Knees'

Iran said Wednesday that Palestinian militants had emerged the victors and brought their Israeli foe "to its knees" during the bloody 50-day Gaza conflict.

"The heroic Palestinian people have forged a new era with the victory of the resistance which has brought the Zionist regime to its knees," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

"This victory prepares the way for the final liberation of all the occupied lands especially Quds (Jerusalem)," it said, congratulating the Palestinian people and the militant groups in Gaza that Iran supports.

After seven weeks of the deadliest Israeli-Palestinian violence in a decade, a long-term ceasefire took hold at 1600 GMT on Tuesday, sparking festivities around the Gaza Strip.

The conflict, which began on July 8 when Israel began Operation Protective Edge in a bid to stamp out cross-border rocket fire, cost the lives of 2,143 Palestinians and 70 on the Israeli side.

U.N. figures show nearly 70 percent of the Palestinian victims were civilians, while 64 of the Israelis killed were soldiers.

A Palestinian official said the Egyptian-mediated deal  would involve an end to Israel's eight-year blockade of Gaza.

Ending the blockade had been a key Palestinian demand in truce talks, with the Islamist movement Hamas that rules Gaza hailing the agreement as a "victory for the resistance."

Sure what gave the victory away, the post apocalyptic Gaza landscape the 2000+ innocent dead or the hamas leaders killed?

the end to the israeli blockade of gaza.

that was the unanimous demand by all people living in gaza, not just hamas. people declared they'd rather continue the fight than die a slow death under blockade.

it was indeed costly in terms of human lives, but they succeeded.

Indeed a joke, another divine victory, another glorious day.

Thumb _mowaten_ 27 August 2014, 11:50

who are you to judge? the people of gaza made enormous sacrifices to gain the end of the blockade, and they got it.
you being happy or not is not relevant.

Palestinian blood was traded for imaginary victories by arafat, assad sr, adbel nasser, qaddafi, now iran, hesballah and five star hotels mashaal. With friends like these who needs enemies. The Palestinian people's true sacrifices are used up and spat out by the same kinds of snake oil salesmen for far too long.

what would you suggest, since you're such a big defender of the Palestinian cause?

Truer victories were achieved by Palestinians sacrificing themselves stones in hand rather than AK47 or screaming despots from high podiums. Unlike your kind I never claimed to defend the Palestinian cause that's up to them to do it, but they are not doing themselves a favor by letting the sameold same old arafats, assads sr, adbel nassers, qaddafis, now irans, hesballahs and five star hotels mashaals use it as a trading card on a table. Lebanon the only cause I care for was burned Fida2 Filasteen by the arafat, assad sr, adbel nasser, many others. It was used as a mailbox for sending messages and added to the table as a card to trade with. All who disagreed were murdered, disappeared or called a zionist a word used so much in vain it lost it's true meaning.

if you're not defending the palestinian cause, then dont be here whining about who what "traded" their blood for victories imaginary or not. be coherent, as you said yourself: it's up to them to judge what leaders or actions served their cause or not.

you're the typical useless whiner who will critize everyone who does something while never doing anything yourself nor even trying to provide constructive input.
