Suicide Car Bomber Targets Hizbullah Checkpoint, 3 Killed

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

A suicide car bomber killed on Saturday night three people at a checkpoint manned by Hizbullah in the district of Baalbek that lies in eastern Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported.

However, a Hizbullah-run TV station reported later that the suicide bomber did not kill anyone at the checkpoint. There was no immediate way to reconcile the contradictory reports.

The suicide car bomber detonated his explosives-rigged Range Rover at the checkpoint about 4.8 kilometers from the Syria border near the town of Khreibeh, NNA said.

It wasn't immediately clear if the casualties were bystanders or Hizbullah fighters.

The last such suicide car bombing occurred in February. Since July 2013, scores of people have been killed in more than a dozen suicide car bombings that have rocked the country.

The Saturday attack was linked to the war in Syria, similar to the previous bombings, as the spillover from the Syrian war raises sectarian tensions in the country.

Sunni jihadists, including the Islamic State group, have been trying to punish the Iranian-backed Hizbullah because its fighters are battling alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

They have claimed responsibility for previous bombings in Lebanon that have targeted Shiite communities. But they have also increasingly targeted the Lebanese army itself, seeing it as aligned with Hizbullah fighters.

Tensions have ratcheted further in recent weeks, after militants from Syria overran the Lebanese border town of Arsal in early August, capturing and killing soldiers and police. The militants, including the al-Qaida linked al-Nusra Front and the extremist Islamic State group, are holding several soldiers and Internal Security Forces members as hostages.

At least three have been killed by their captors. Two have been beheaded by Islamic State militants, sparking days of violence against Syrian refugees in Lebanon and tit-for-tat kidnappings between Sunnis and Shiites.

How Sad..... I am emotionless right now and I have strong feelings about it.... but why they keep targeting our resistance? why?

Normally I ignore your comments as unworthy, this time I'm making an exception.
Who raised you to be the low life that you come across as? You think insults will gain you anything? On the contrary, your demeanor serves only to cement the perception of us Lebanese that the likes of you differ not from the likes of ISIS. Here's a poem that fits you to a T:

Any normal human being has at least a small modicum of self respect, whereas the likes of you have none. You think you are geniuses compared to the rest of us, do you? Well check this out:

Hypocrisy is what you practice on this site 24/7.
The comment that I responded to has since been removed - BTW Naharnet, such censorship is counter productive IMHO - but it was targeting @ice-man' comment not @jihadimissiom"s comment so stop your BS. You can agree or disagree but for God's sake man do show some dignity by ceasing and desisting from employing lies, and spins.
No, I do not aspire to be this site, or any other site's policeman. However, I will respond to outrageous, malicious and demeaning comments such as the one @wolf made.

Slow down dude. Your comment is inappropriate. No Lebanese life should be lost that way regardless of their political affiliation.
what's the matter with you guys? don't you think we I mean all Lebanese should stand united and face together the imminent threat on Lebanon? shame on you guys for being so polarized and divided between M8 and M14
Thank god I am neither because I personally blame all our leaders for the situation we're in

Thumb cityboy 21 September 2014, 11:53

coolmec, i dont have a problem with someone that supports m14, everyone has their choice, but i have issues with idiotic posts as eagledawn's above. A post like that has nothing to do with m14 or m8, that only stems from pure hate towards fellow lebanese or is more likely trolling on here to create further division.

My problem is really the stupid and worthless comments posted by both M8 or M14. this business of mutual blame is so lame these guys are so polarized to the point beyond reality.
I bet you if we have floods or an earthquake they will manage to blame each other.
By the way I have no problem with comments emanating from M8 or M14 provided they make sense and expose their political point of view. I may not agree but I appreciate and respect an intelligent comment but can't appreciate worthless mutual blame comments

Thumb lebnanfirst 21 September 2014, 18:14

@coolmec
If I recall correctly, you actually reside in Southern California but visit Lebanon once in a while.
Yes, it is sad that the Lebanese have reached such lows in communicating. That said, if you lived here year round and especially since HA turned its guns on other Lebanese and if you have witnessed the holier-than-throw demeanor of the Hizb's rank and file, maybe then you can appreciate the wide chasm between M8 & M14.

Let me just say I am laughing at your comment because you fail to see the bigger picture.
one point though don't you think that the Daesh would have reached Lebanon sooner or later regardless of HA being in Syria?
the idea of a sunni caliphate stretching from Lebanon to Saudi Arabia never floated your narrow minded brain??

Although I support our LAF but I view it as weak. It needs to be well equipped and better trained to better confront the imminent threat and could certainly use help from the Lebanese citizens, I also hope that the Saudi money will come through and we get weapons with it

Thumb lebpatriot0007 21 September 2014, 15:44

May this terrorist burn in hell and soon his March 14 supporters also burn in hell.

May God have mercy on the souls of those that were killed.

Thumb Machia 21 September 2014, 16:53

Well it is really sad to hear that Lebanese have died whether they are civilians or members of Hezbollah.
When one Lebanese dies because of a terrorist attack, the whole country dies a little more.
Daesh, which I hate because they hate every life loving person in this world, is an obvious creation of US and Israeli intelligence services in order to terrorize Iran, especially during their nuclear and other negotiations with the West. (After all those fighters and their weapons all pass through Turkey, a NATO country).
Hezbollah, which I sort of respect but blame for the worthless murders of Lebanese politicians and journalists and for antagonizing half of the Lebanese population, was always a target of Daesh and Al Nusra. They had no choice but to fall in the clever US/Israeli trap and fight those crazies in Syria.
Now the Western alliance is putting Daesh in check without eliminating their Islamic State, the way they have kept Bashar Assad afloat.
And the winner is Israel...

Thumb Machia 21 September 2014, 16:53

The only way to get out of this is for Iran to do a great bargain with the West. Then extremism in the Middle East, whether Shia, Sunni, Christian or Zionist, has to be tackled and ended.

I just read your comment addressed to me to which I reply hoping you will get to read it.
Yes you are right I do live in Southern California and often come to Beirut as I have my parents house here.
I don't need to live here to witness the excesses be it HA, Mustakbal, FPM Kataeb, LF and the rest. As far as I am concerned I put them all in the same bag and I actually blame them ALL for Lebanon's demise.
Our corrupt, and inept politicians should all be replaced since they are incapable in putting Lebanon's interest as their priority. What are they good for then?? enriching themselves and their croonies.

Missing coolmec 21 September 2014, 21:25

Moreover, that was not the point in my comment to which you replied. Let me repeat and reiterate that my point was simply to express my frustration as to how people are so polarized to the point whereby their comments is stupidly blaming each other. Although I am neither M8 or M14 I do respect but do not agree with neither. I would however appreciate a comment from either 8 or 14 if it were commented in an intelligent way proving their point as per their political affiliation. I assume it is asking too much since it seems to me they only enjoy blaming each other. and I might add in a stupid childish way

Thumb lebnanfirst 22 September 2014, 01:02

Point taken @coolmec. Lebanese society has yet to mature and this is reflected in the comments you see at this site. You see, we have not reached the point where Lebanon as a common country is uniformly accepted across all sects without exception.
Visiting vs. living here is not at all the same. You are lucky to be living in a country where the sociaty's views have matured. Moreover, I am told that in all US schools, public and private, students pledge their allegiance to the US on a daily bases. Here they pledge their allegiance to this and that hizb or political leader. Sad but true.

Thumb Maxx 21 September 2014, 22:18

For all that anybody knows at this point, those may have been innocent bystanders.
But even if they had been Hizb people, I don't see how gloating over their death makes anyone better than the people who commit such sorts of mass-murders - be they the mass-murders of M14 politicians and anyone standing next to them, or M8 militants and anybody standing next to them.
It is a sad state we're in indeed that we, as Lebanese citizens, have descended to such lows.
