Israel's population is now more than 8.2 million, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on Monday, releasing new figures on the eve of Jewish New Year.

The numbers show that Israel has 8,252,500 inhabitants -- 6,186,100 Jews (75 percent), 1,709,900 Arabs (20.7 percent) and 356,500 others (4.3 percent).

The numbers include Palestinian residents of east Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed in a move not recognized by the international community.

Figures published last year by the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies show there are some 290,000 Palestinians living in east Jerusalem, the vast majority of whom hold residency permits but not Israeli nationality.

The population figures do not include around 190,000 foreign workers who were registered as living in Israel in 2013.

Throughout 2013, the overall population grew by 1.9 percent. The Jewish population saw a 1.7-percent growth rate, while the Arab sector's growth rate was 2.2 percent.

The report indicates that in 2013, more than a quarter of the population -- 28.2 percent -- was aged 14 and under.

The average life expectancy for women was 80.3 years, and for men 79.9.
