Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has expressed readiness to train Lebanese troops to help them in the fight against terrorists, An Nahar daily reported on Wednesday.

The newspaper quoted ministerial sources as saying that al-Sisi told Prime Minister Tammam Salam during a meeting in New York that Cairo was “ready to help as much as it could.”

“We are ready to welcome Lebanese army units and train them to confront terrorism,” the Egyptian president allegedly said.

Salam met with al-Sisi on the sidelines of the General Assembly session. He also held talks on Tuesday with U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon, Jordan's King Abdullah II and other officials.

The PM told al-Arabiya TV on Tuesday that Lebanon needs increased international support to help the 1.3 million Syrian refugees it is currently hosting.

“The danger of terrorism is not limited to Lebanon but in the entire region and we are in need of support,” he said ahead of a meeting by the International Support Group for Lebanon.

The al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State group, which controls parts of Syria and Iraq, engaged last month in bloody gunbattles with the Lebanese army in and around the northeastern border town of Arsal.

The terrorists took with them hostages from the military and police. They killed three of them and warned they would carry out more executions if the Lebanese authorities failed to meet their demands.

While training is appreciated, I wonder how much Egypt's armed forces technology is superior than ours...

We should not ignore reality. Our troops used to be highly trained while now the state of readiness of the army is as dismal as that of the country. What happened in Arsal show how unprepared is our army.

egypt is struggling with a handful of terrorists in the sinai and they want to train us!? LOL

No offence to Egypt but the only thing the Egyptian army could teach the LAF is maybe how to make Bamyie with rice

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 September 2014, 11:11

lol. but seriously, not even that.

Thumb cityboy 24 September 2014, 12:30

Egypt, does your training come with a condition that anything you teach the LAF can not be used against your ally Israel.

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 September 2014, 12:56

100%
plus they'd probably take the opportunity to pinpoint every target for israel.

Thumb cityboy 24 September 2014, 13:29

Yes the egyptian training will go great with the french weapons that can't be used against our number one enemy.

I agree about training but would bw better if they give some of their weapons to the lebanese army.

Thumb freedomarch 24 September 2014, 13:45

Wonder why they are not hitting isis!!

Thumb freedomarch 24 September 2014, 13:50

If I was an army comander I would prepare a striking force to free our soldiers and hit the positions of terrorists while doing so, use stealth of night and surprise smoke their ass with these bonbs from russia that will make them sleep .. well . you know the picture ... better than aitting on the road s asking for help..

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 September 2014, 14:11

and that's exactly why you are not and never will be an army commander.

Thank you General Sisi..
Please teach our army how to accept billions of dollars from the Saud's in order to stage an illegal coup d'etat in order to overthrow a elected government.
Then please teach us how to close border crossing and destroy tunnels for tens of thousands of desperate/poor people.

Lol it is the other way around, lebanese army should train egyptian army how to fight terrorism

Missing phillipo 28 September 2014, 12:39

Just like the way they have succeeded against the terrorists in the Palestinian camps, the way they have succeeded against Hizballah, and the way they are succeeding against all those terrorists in Arsal.

"instead of bombing israel into oblivion"
You actually still dream that military aircraft could cross into Israeli territory and carry out a bombing mission? See what happened last week to the Syrian Sukhoi which cross the border by only 400 meters.
Unfortunately for you, there are some Arab leaders who finally realise that Israel is not the big enemy in the area.
