Report: Geagea Mulling to Boycott Christian Leaders Meeting in Bkirki

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and Phalange party chief Amin Gemayel are mulling to suspend their participation in a meeting of top Maronite political leaders scheduled to be held in Bkirki later this month.

LF sources told An Nahar daily published Tuesday that the party’s leadership is considering Geagea’s boycott of the meeting on Sept. 23 over Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi’s latest remarks on Hizbullah and the Syrian crisis.

During his visit to Paris and in an interview with al-Arabiya satellite TV network last week, al-Rahi said the fate of Hizbullah’s arms is linked to the termination of Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland.

Al-Rahi also warned that the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria was a threat to Christians. He said Syrian President Bashar Assad should be given the chance to introduce reform.

Al-Liwaa daily said that Gemayel was also considering suspending his participation in the Sept. 23 meeting.

But MP Elie Marouni denied to Voice of Lebanon radio station (100.5) that the Phalange will boycott the meeting. He also stressed to Radio Orient that the issues on the agenda of the inter-Maronite talks are totally different from the “surprising remarks” of al-Rahi.

On Monday, Gemayel lashed out at Hizbullah’s arms, saying they are sectarian weapons that threaten Lebanon’s stability.

In response to al-Rahi’s statement on Syria, he stressed the Phalange would support demands for freedom and democracy in the Arab world.

Patriarch Besharra recent remark was not only irresponsible but very damaging. Besharra strategy is short sighted,it's not if but when the Assad regime collapses the world and our great patriarch would have no choice but to recognize and deal with the new government of Syria.Besharra is asking the world to give Assad more time, well they give him six months so far and in the process he has managed to slaughter over 3000 thousand people.Suprisenly the march 8 hypocrites have not came out and demanded Besharra stays out of politics just like they did with Sfier.Surprise,suprise.

the mistake of monseigeur rahi is like the mistake of the sunnis siding with palestinians and wahhabies, the mistake of the shia siding with the farsi mullah....
what really troubled the monseigneur mind is mixing his diocese religious duty AS batrak of the orient and the political ones of BILAD EL ARZ FIRST

Listening to Dr.Geagea' s last interview on MTV with Walid Abound was amazing.
His intellect, bravery, honesty and logic could not be found in any other Lebanese politician.
Not only he clarifies things for you, but listening to him is very educational.

One less criminal in any gathering is always very welcome and encouraged, too. A criminal's place is behind bars or, in the case of Dr. Criminal, hanging by his neck from a tree.

It is not a good idea to boycott these proceedings. You must be present to voice your concerns and communicate your viewpoints to those that may have their own viewpoints, however misguided these may be. We objected when Aoun, Frangieh, and others when they disrespected and misbehaved toward Patriarch Sfeir because of his views/positions. It was wrong then and it is wrong now to do the same to Patriarch Rai.

I have to admit sometime Dr Greenthumb has positive stances.....
This man has a black history and his enemies belong to all religions/regions.
On the other hand he has a lovely wife i seriously advise him to think about early retirement and making kids....If he does that everyone will forgive him and that is his way for salvation....
Can someone tell him please?
