Bkirki might host a meeting for Catholic church leaders to take a united stance from the developments in the region and their repercussions on Christians, involved sources told An Nahar daily published Tuesday.

The sources said that the seat of the Maronite church might host a meeting of Catholic patriarchs to garner support for Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi’s fears from the threat that the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria poses to Christians there.

Al-Rahi launched a series of talks with politicians, who began streaming to Bkirki on Monday afternoon upon the patriarch’s return from Paris. His statements on Hizbullah’s weapons and the crisis in Syria have drawn strong criticism from the March 14-led opposition and praise from the March 8 forces.

The sources said the meetings that al-Rahi began to hold with politicians was the starting point for a dialogue that would deal with his statements and the different reactions to them.

The patriarch hinted to his visitors that his remarks were taken out of context and were “politically” misinterpreted.

'taken out of context and were “politically” misinterpreted' is not enough to explain... he didn't clarify his stance. In any case, like the mufti qabbani before him, religious leaders role in politics should be treated with reason. They are human after all, they can be right or wrong.

It's time for the Lebanese to resort to democratic means, and only a democratic system, where the political leaders are elected and reelected. And the people can judge and decide in the elections.

The picture is getting clearer and it appears that he is reflecting Vatican's stance regarding the current developments in Syria and the neighborhood.
The Vatican fears of a similar fate to Christians in the region to that of Iraq. They were not happy of the mass exodus of Christians from Iraq and would not want a similar scenario in Syria or even in Lebanon.
The damage in Iraq was mostly done by sunni fundamentalists.

So Al-Rahi is simply conveying Vatican's message.
Is this why Patriarch Sfeir was replaced by Al-Rahi? Only history would be able to answer that.

My fellow Shiite bro Sanctify Yourself good analysis except ..
- The Vatican is very worried for the future of the Christians especially after the Iranian officials declarations that " we are witnessing the birth of the Islamic Middle East " . Everyone knows that's why the Iranians created Hezbollah . The Vatican directed his beatitude Patriarch Rai to take back everything he'd said in Paris .
- The Pope called for " real reforms " and the " end of violence " in Syria addressing Assad who lied for ten years about reforming .
- Most the Sunni fundamentalist in Iraq were sent over through the Syrian border , President Assad was proud of it . Their the purpose was to create chaos and killing Christians on , what SHN called , Muslim land is just a happy bonus for the Syrian regime like it used to be in Lebanon .
- Patriarch Sfeir resigned according to the Maronite Patriarchate , the Vatican and the Pope but we all know , unlike the Ayatollahs and SHN they always lie .
