Two Lebanese nationals and a Syrian were arrested on Friday on suspicion that they may belong to an extremist group, reported the National News Agency.

It said that Internal Security Forces arrested them as they were strolling in the market of the coastal city of Jbeil north of Beirut.

The security forces discovered photographs of various weapons on their mobile phones.

The suspects have since been referred to the ISF Intelligence Bureau for investigation.

Several people have been charged in recent months with belonging to extremist groups, sparking fears of the spread of these organizations to Lebanon.

The Internal Security Forces and army have carried out earlier this year a security plan in the eastern Bekaa region and northern city of Tripoli to crackdown on wanted gunmen and various suspects.
