Israel Warns of 'Harsh' Consequences of Palestinian U.N. Bid

Hardline Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman warned Wednesday there will be "harsh and grave consequences" if the Palestinians persist with their plan to seek U.N. membership as a state.

Speaking shortly before a scheduled meeting with EU foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton, Lieberman did not elaborate on the threatened consequences.

"The moment has not yet come to give details of what will happen," he said.

In the past he has called for Israel to sever all relations with the administration of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas should it press on with its U.N. bid.

"What I can say with the greatest confidence is that from the moment they pass a unilateral decision there will be harsh and grave consequences," Lieberman told an agricultural conference in southern Israel.

"I hope that we shall not come to those harsh and grave consequences, and that common sense will prevail in all decisions taken in order to allow co-existence and progress with negotiations," he added.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak earlier Wednesday met Ashton in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu's office did not immediately comment on the talks while a short statement from the defense ministry said only that Ashton and Barak had discussed "relations with the Palestinians and the situation in the region."

The EU foreign policy chief arrived from Cairo, where she met Abbas and Arab League ministers who have been discussing Palestinian preparations to request U.N. membership for a state of Palestine.

Empty headed Yogi Bear .....empty threat and will give you more points in being an embarrassment to the Israelis.

No to UN recognition as a State.....Israel did that 60 years ago
No direct negotiation ....therefore no peace
No apology to the Turks

You are repeating the same NO , No No, of Golda Meier
Me no see Palestinians
Me No hear Palestinians
Me no Know Palestinians.....

Yogi....they are there and will be there.......they are your cousins

So are the consequences going to be 'harsher and graver' than another generation growing up without a state?

I hope they call Israels bluff and declare. Anything which challenges the status quo is GOOD for Palestine. Only thier oppressors want the 'good old days' to continue.

@asaf, most Arabs would be happy with Jews remaining and taking Palestinian citizenship. What they won't accept is Israeli annexation via the illegal settlements.

Asaf
Thanks
Taxes collected by Isarel will be collected by Palestinians.
Infrastructure has been built
The present government is doing great.
International funds will come to Palestine the way US funds go to Isreal.
They will be given the chance.
Give them the chance the way you had your chance.

Last but not least....integrate in the area so that you understand it

asaf,
The Jewish state is finished, and pretending otherwise is not faith in God. I think many Jews will want to stay on in Palestine. Criminals are another matter. Most knew of Israel's crimes, but it is not the citizen's job to disarm the madman.

Oh, like killing more babies and their mothers? What have the filthy Israelis not done yet that they think they can still do and scare the Palestinians? Filthy European occupiers! When their day will come, hopefully very soon, nobody will shed a tear on these filth of the earth, NOBODY.
