PSP Dismisses Deterioration of Jumblat-Hizbullah Ties

The Progressive Socialist Party is shrugging off reports and rumors about deterioration in the relations between PSP chief Walid Jumblat and Hizbullah over his remarks on the Shiite party’s weapons.

Ministers Ghazi Aridi and Wael Abou Faour, who are loyal to Jumblat, stressed before a cabinet session held on Wednesday that ties between the Druze chief and Hizbullah officials are “good,” An Nahar daily reported.

They said that al-Manar TV station’s criticism of Jumblat does not reflect the stance of Hizbullah and its officials, who are “in continued contact” with him.

Jumblat has rejected statements made by Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi who has allegedly linked the fate of Hizbullah’s arms to the liberation of remaining Israeli-occupied Lebanese territories.

The PSP chief’s remarks drew the criticism of Hizbullah’s mouthpiece which accused Jumblat of changing his stances.

Aridi said on Wednesday that he held talks with a top official from the Shiite party. The meeting didn’t reflect any deterioration in the ties with Jumblat, he hinted, according to An Nahar.

Abou Faour also hinted that a telephone conversation was held between Jumblat and Hizbullah MP Mohammed Raad to clarify his position.

Meanwhile, the PSP chief travelled to France on Wednesday on a private visit.

This photo of Mr Joumblatt closing his eyes to sense more deeply the warmth of kissing an iguana, is taken from the zoological archives. i doubted it's recent. However we can trace a parallel back to when the same Sir Joumblatt took his distances from the M14 after the article in the der Spiegel was published back in summer 2008: he started by advising them to bite the bullit and be realistic, then gradually split from M14 but said his relationship with hariri was excellent, then it was his personal relationship (meaning not political) with him, but also that his party members were free to have a different opinion than his (that was before threatening party exclusion and renaming it under the rule of enforced unity), Hariri was invited to the Chouf and received an artificially warm welcome as though to negate what was clearly written on the wall...etc....could it be that he started making some reverse millimetric moves.? I think so. It will all depend on the outcome in Syria.

He will then reopen the M14 drawer, and digg for some rehearsed slogans out...

funny some people claim to know the next elections results :-)
(that used to be the case when the Assad's regime was managing the elections in Lebanon, not so after they withdrew)
You can still know the results of the elections in areas where Hizballah has got influence, as long as they have their arms... it wouldn't be like that if they become a normal political party, like everyone else.... that is the only reason why they don't want to give up their arms. Everything else they tell us about why they don't want to give their arms to the government is a lie.

Event Hariri now is now is not sure about the results of the elections in the Sunni cities, there will be a electoral battle between Miquati and Hariri in Tripoli and Beirut and everywhere else... This is democracy! not a perfect one, a lot of corruption is still involved, a lot of money.

That is not comparable to Sweden or Denmark, but at least comparabel to Italy.

the foxy jumblat knows very well that hizbllah is "crippled" ... with the cancer the syrian regime is enduring, the palestinians and their kronies ready to fight back, his expansion in the christian areas is limited to michel aoun( after monseigneur trying to open anew breach and failed).....
jumblat sent saado to paris, with warm kisses, and doing the same with march 8...knowing that bashar crossed the point of no return,he is breathing freely now.
