Report: Bkirki Seeks International Pressure to End Presidential Deadlock

International powers are seeking to pressure local authorities to stage the presidential elections, highlighting the dangers of vacuum given the developments in the region, reported the daily An Nahar on Saturday.

This was emphasized by the visits of ambassadors of countries of permanent membership at the United Nations Security Council to Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi at Bkirki earlier this week.

Information obtained by the daily said that the international powers are embroiled in regional conflicts “that will not be resolved any time soon, and therefore Lebanon cannot await the outcomes of these disputes” to settle is own issues.

“Lebanon's leaderships should determine their own fate and they will find international backing,” added An Nahar.

Meanwhile, deputy U.N. Secretary General Jan Eliasson is scheduled to pay a two-day visit to Lebanon on December 11 in order to carry out contacts linked to the presidential elections and the case of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale had held talks on Thursday with al-Rahi after which he stated: “We once again call on Lebanon’s parliament to elect a president as soon as possible and in accordance with the constitution and the National Pact.

“The election of a president is a decision entirely for the Lebanese to take, but take it, they must,” he added.

Lebanon has been without a president since May when the term of Michel Suleiman ended.

Disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the polls.

Al-Rahi has repeatedly called on lawmakers to elect a president, highlighting the detrimental effects the vacuum has on the country.

“Lebanon can no longer persist in this state of fragmentation caused by the schemes of powerful politicians,” he had remarked on Sunday.

Dear Batrak,
Please name clearly the Caporal who is working for the Mutelateh. Please tell your people he is a liar and corrupt agent. Please tell them how this madman and traitor is destroying the Christians.

Dear Batrak,
By nominating the caporal as their candidate, HA is using a tactic for never reaching an election. To obtain the Mutelateh they want to destroy the institutions and the National Pact. The caporal is serving them and executing what they want. This will clearly result in the destructions of the Christians.

HA is working against the interest of the Christians + Caporal serving HA = Caporal harming the Christians.

Bkirki should put pressure on Berri to lift his arbitrary two third quorum to elect a president and watch how fast a president is elected.

The key to this problem is with Sayed Hassan Nasrallah. He feels that he cannot afford to have another decent president like Suleiman at the helm of our nation and is trying all he could to have Aoun the clown to take that much coveted seat. With Aoun and co, Nasrallah hopes to have the highest authority of the land become his official rubber stamper, anything Hezbollah wants, Aboul Mish will legalize. Michel Aoun, if he has one tiny iota of decency and conscience, he will do the right thing and make a public statement by which he will refuse to be considered for the presidency and that he will urge all the Lebanese to elect a new, young and dynamic president. But the old man is greedy to the bone-marrow, and Sayed Hassan has become arrogant and cocky, thus a bad cocktail. But believe me all, we are not that far from having a new president, and Aoun will end in Deyr Al Salib as expected. Sayed Hassan of course will continue to live under ground as should remain his case.

Just assuming AOUN as president,
He will start repeating his 1990 scenario persecuting first and only Christians. He is a too small puppet to HA to dare addressing any Shiite. He will do anything to please Hariri. What is left is attacking all Christians (as his Christian supporters can be counted on only two hands).
To be honest, for the first time in my life, I wish him to die not because he is strong but because HA cannot find any better Christian cover.
For Christians even Lucifer (Shaytan) can be a better president.
