The army carried out on Sunday raids against a number of houses in the northern region of Bhannine in search of wanted suspects, reported the National News Agency.

It said that it arrested a suspect linked to clashes that erupted in the region last month.

He is also suspected of being involved in an assault against the army in the nearby Mhammara region.

In late October, gunmen led by Islamist militant Sheikh Khaled Hoblos, a previously unknown cleric, engaged in deadly clashes with the army in the town of Bhannine.

A number of suspects linked to the unrest have since been arrested, but a number of others still remain at large.
