Berri: Chances are High for a Successful Dialogue between al-Mustaqbal and Hizbullah

Speaker Nabih Berri stated on Saturday that chances are high for dialogue to yield well between al-Mustaqbal movement and Hizbullah, the As Safir daily reported on Saturday.

Berri described the dialogue-encouraging stance of al-Mustaqbal movement leader Saad Hariri as “good”, saying: “Hariri's stance reiterates what I announced later on the necessity to keep the agenda of talks away from the issue of the Resistance's arms and the Syrian file, for difficulty of reaching an agreement on those two.”

He pointed “the ideas suggested by Hariri regarding the dialogue are realistic mainly what touched on the need to contain sedition, which is exactly what Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah wants.

“Besides, the issue of security in the area of Bekaa and reaching an agreement on a consensual president without discussing names of candidates,” are further ideas propsed for discussion.

Hariri announced on Thursday that he is seeking a “serious dialogue” with Hizbullah “for the sake of the country,” as he stressed the need to elect a “consensual president.”

Lebanon has been left without a president since May when the term of President Michel Suleiman ended. The parliament has so far failed to elect a successor over divisions between the rival March 8 and March 14 alliances.

The Speaker will set the time for the proposed dialogue as soon as he receives an official suggestion on the meeting agenda from al-Mustaqbal and Hizbullah.

Berri also suggested to host the first meeting at his Ain el-Tineh residence with a joint sponsorship with MP Walid Jumblat. But he said that he is pushing for the two sides to meet alone and that he is ready to intervene if requested.

If a meeting was to take place, it would be between the political aide to Hizbullah secretary general Hussein Khalil, the adviser of al-Mustaqbal movement leader, Nader al-Hariri and MP Jamal al-Jarrah representing head of al-Mustaqbal bloc Fouad Saniora.

This dialogue is useless for Lebanon. Hizbollah positions have not changed: seeking to grow in influence and power at the expense of the Lebanese state; extending the hegemony of the Iranian Islamic Revolution in Lebanon (and now in Syria).

Mr. Berri, the speaker of the house of confusion, so busy over nothing really. Only when this old sod is removed would this country begin to look like a democracy and not one second before.

FT, let people judge, between what I post and what you post, I believe you are the one furthest from the center. Nothing personal ya FT, just needed to bring that to the surface, and let the readership be the judge, not you, not me, but the readership.

Because you called him a far-right leader. If he was a "centrist" like Aoun portrays himself as, the Palestinians would have taken over the country

There is a 101 communication course on : "how to dialogue with a gun on your head"....by professor Al Capone grand son of the famous gangster.

Maybe Adwan meant that unlike other parties in the Lebanese parliament such as Hezbollah, SSNP, Ba'ath etc Berri does not consider Lebanon and it's territory inherently a part of another nation or larger 2umma.

Metaphysics is the exact opposite of what I did, but kudos for actually knowing that universities exist. I consider it a giant leap for someone like yourself. Next lesson for you, books.

Saudi/US owned LF, doesn't care about christians. We saw their "support" for the Syrian christians that were massacred. All they do is nodding whenever Israel and USA tells them to. They wont admit it ever.

Flamey stfu and stop ridiculing Phoenix. First of all, where was your general when Bashir defended the country from a Palestinian takeover? Bashir was the only true leader because he died for real Lebanese independence. And that's what every neutral Lebanese should want: a truly independent Lebanon.

Thumb nickjames 29 November 2014, 17:22

Any Christian who doesn't respect Bashir is a traitor. The man was forced to start an army because your LAF did nothing to stop the Palestinians. He led the BG squad into the fiercest battles of the early war. He marched through the mountains to save Zahle while it was surrounded by Syrians. And now you're gonna talk about Aoun defending his Palace... but that's right he fled like a pansy and left all his men to be executed... then he was gone for 15 years and then allied with terrorists controlled by Syria

Thumb Mystic 29 November 2014, 20:00

There we go. "If you are not with the LF, you are not a true christian." You sound like a takfiri.

Thumb nickjames 29 November 2014, 20:16

I didn't say that. You can hate Geagea but if you hate Bashir you're not a Christian

Thumb nickjames 29 November 2014, 21:51

I said respect, not support. He had to make tough decisions at first, but he wanted an independent Lebanon, free of any outsiders (Palestinians, Syrians, Israelis, even the UNIFIL) and he was killed over that stance

@ Phoenix1 and @Flamethrower, it is useless for you both to fight over any topic anymore, the agreemeent between Hezbollah and Mustaqbal if it succeeds, will end the presidential turmoil. They will choose a president for christians. Which means ya chabeb christian leaders are no more chosen by christians but other sects which is deplorable and highly pathetic. Christians have no say anymore in Lebanon, because their leaders are more interested in personal interests than their people. Geagea and Aoun have destroyed christians once more, there is nothing to discuss anymore.
