The army dismantled on Saturday an explosive device and an anti-tank mine on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal, it announced in a statement.

The bomb was placed on the side of a dirt road that the army frequently uses in its patrols, reported LBCI television.

The device contained 20 kilograms of explosives, added the army communique.

It was discovered as the military was searching a number of roads on the outskirts of Arsal.

The army also unearthed an anti-tank mine in the area.

The explosive device and the mine were both prepared to be remotely detonated.

In March, the army was the victim of a suicide bomb attack that targeted its checkpoint in Arsal.

Three troops were martyred and four others were wounded in the attack.

In August, the army engaged in clashes in Arsal with Islamist gunmen from Syria who had overran the town.

I think Arsal itself has to be dismantled because the betrayal is from the inside itself. At the onset they believed in something and when ISIL got in, they got something else. Just like in Iraq, many areas fell to ISIL because of internal betrayal. Let's tell things exactly as they happened, Arsal is like Iraq, same lettuce, different day.
