The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday announced that Lebanon's chargés d'affaires in Chile and Brazil have fallen victim to robbery attacks, revealing that it has sent letters of protest to demand protection for Lebanon's missions.

The complaints were filed with the foreign ministries of the two countries, the ministry said in a statement.

It also demanded investigations and the punishment of the perpetrators, urging “the necessary protection for Lebanon's embassies in Brazil and Chile, in line with the diplomatic agreements and norms and according to the principle of reciprocity.”

Media reports said a Lebanese diplomat was injured earlier on Friday in Brazil after he was assaulted by unknown assailants.

The chargé d'affaires Abdul Aziz Issa was reportedly stabbed several times by unidentified assailants who also stole his car.

The attackers fled while Issa was admitted into hospital, the reports said.

LBCI television reported later on Friday that the envoy is in a “good condition.”
