Security Forces Thwart Alleged Plot to Kill Samaha

Police have thwarted a plot to kill former pro-Syrian Information Minister Michel Samaha who has been indicted in a series of terrorist plots, security sources said Monday.

The sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper that the military prosecutor had recently granted Samaha the right to be transferred to hospital for medical reasons.

But the prosecutor later lifted his decision under the orders of General Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud and Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi.

Both Hammoud and Rifi interfered in the case after security forces received information that Samaha could be killed during the transfer for having dangerous information on the Syrian regime, the sources said.

The officials agreed that Samaha would be hospitalized only if his medical condition has deteriorated and if the agency tasked with the transfer has provided ultimate security to the convoy.

The former minister and two Syrian officials have been indicted for transporting explosives from Syria to Lebanon in an attempt to assassinate Lebanese political and religious leaders.

But his trial has been adjourned on several occasions over the failure to summon Syrian security chief General Ali Mamlouk.

I respect Mr. Smaha, Mr. Nassrallah, and Mr. Mowaten equally. @Flamethrower, I also respect you for you honesty and dignity.

- Who other than Hezbollah would kill him? Bashar does not want Samaha to confess in a trial (if there ever is one). A confession would make Hezbollah look bad because they are supporting Bashar, the one who ordered bombings in Lebanon.

It's amazing how we have people on this forum supporting Bashar when he ordered bombings in Lebanon. Flamey once said, "Bashar is my enemy inside Lebanon, but my friend outside Lebanon." That's funny because Bashar was outside Lebanon when he ordered bombings inside Lebanon...

He will be assassinated by the same entity that assassinated Harriri. After all who has interest in not exposing the dangerous designs of the Syrian regime? Israel of course, write Mowaten, Mystic and Southern.

Yes. He knows many things. They will silence him.

There are thousands like Samaha in Lebanon from both sides of the isle, some of whom have pledged their loyalties to foreign governments, such as Iran and Saudi Arabia among others. However, they were not caught with weapons in their trunks.

In a civil society, Samaha would be tried and given the chance to tell his side of the story and name names. I doubt the honorable Lebanese politicians will allow it, because of their corrupted involvement, and wish to silence him.

Why do we take so long to prosecute criminals in lebanon surely there is something called the statuate of limitations on how long a suspect is kept in custody without a trial , if this guy is guilty lets get it going and execute him to make an example to others who would sellout their nation .

Missing Je_suis@libonase 16 February 2015, 14:09

Can someone please explain why it is taking so long to prosecute this guy if he is guilty and evidence is beyond shadow of doubt excute him in public to make an example out of someone who sells out his country and if he is innocent release him immediately.

I am the_roar: I am a regular poster on naharnet. I have 20 fake accounts and I live on this forum 24/7. I make fake accounts and insult people when I have no argument or debate. I am a Shia who pretends not to speak Arabic and claims to live in Australia. I know every street in Lebanon and every MP's name despite my claim that I am 3rd generation Australian and having never been to Lebanon. I tell people I don't post on weekends to give them the impression I have a life. I lie and lie and lie and think people believe me. I also post as @wolf and @lebpatriot among others.
