The Ministry of Health reinstated Friday the contract signed with the Hôtel-Dieu de France Hospital in Ashrafieh, two weeks after it was suspended over the medical institute's refusal to carry out an operation for a disabled patient.

In a statement, the ministry said the contract was put into effect again after the hospital's directors met with ministry officials and pledged to “fully abide by the contract's terms.”

On February 21, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour said the contract was terminated after the hospital “violated its contract by refusing to grant treatment to a patient who carried a disability card.”

Sources close to the minister told An Nahar daily that the 27-year-old patient was refused treatment despite week-long negotiations between the Ministry of Health and hospital administration.

They noted that the contract is worth billions of Lebanese pounds annually.
