Army Kills Infiltrators near Asral after Foiling Similar Bid in Ras Baalbek

Several militants were killed Monday evening as the Lebanese army foiled an infiltration attempt into the Bekaa border town of Arsal, following clashes at noon in the outskirts of the border town of Ras Baalbek.

“The Lebanese army thwarted an infiltration attempt in at Wadi Hmeid's checkpoint in Arsal, killing and wounded several militants,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Earlier in the day, the army targeted gunmen on Ras Baalbek's outskirts as they were trying to infiltrate Lebanon, NNA said.

The agency said that the army detected movements by armed men trying to infiltrate through the outskirts of Ras Baalbek, targeting them with the appropriate artillery weapons.

The sounds of shelling and mortars could be heard in nearby areas, the news agency said.

The Syrian army's jets simultaneously shelled gunmen posts in Syria along the outskirts of Ras Baalbek.

Syrian warplanes continuously target areas along Lebanon's border since the uprising against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad erupted in 2011.

Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5) reported earlier that gunmen targeted army positions in the area, which prompted troops to retaliate.

A rocket also landed between the outskirts of Brital and Hawr Taala, the radio station said, adding that no casualties were reported.

The army frequently clashes with the militants in their hideouts near the Syria border.

The Islamic State, which controls several areas in Syria and Iraq, aims to spread to Lebanon as its fighters position in the outskirts of Bekaa towns bordering Syria and the Lebanese army is in adamant efforts to stop their efforts to infiltrate the country.

Let the army pound them sobs till they exist no more, till they turn to ashes, at least in this way we can use the ashes to fertilize our farms.

Good work FT, surely you're one who mustn't doubt the alliance between Hezbollah and Israel, ma heyk?

Thumb Mystic 16 March 2015, 18:36

Must not forget about Lebanese Forces brotherly alliance, during the Civil war ma heyk Phoenix?

I do still not understand, why you try to push your alliances on others ya phoenix.

Thumb _mowaten_ 16 March 2015, 18:11

in ras baalbeck? dude you're not just a traitor and terrorist supporter, you're a clown.

Thumb Mystic 16 March 2015, 18:38

Israel and Lebanese Forces were the best of brothers, during the civil war. Israel just bombed the Palestinians for the LF, and then the remaining survivors got executed by LF death squads.

The LF are not known to be honorable phoenix, honestly.

My priest and many friends at church in the states are from Ras Baalbek. Its funny because most of them are not huge HA fans, or Assad fans, but they all kind of laughed yesterday when I brought up Assad bombing them on Lebanese soil in this area, as well as HA going after them. They all agreed that it was almost humorous they are happy about HA and Assad fighting them. Its kind of an interesting dynamic. I wish Geagea and Aoun would do more to expel ISIS from Lebanon. It seems that HA is more concerned with ISIS than Geagea. Most residents in Ras Baalbeck are LF supporters. I wish Geagea would be more fair and balanced. I am against HA arms but right now am glad they have them. I truly feel ISIS, not Israel, not HA are the current greatest threat in the region.

Thumb _mowaten_ 16 March 2015, 19:48

well that sounds like a fair and balanced judgement, even though we usually dont agree i have to respect you on this one. +1 from me

lol @anony!!!! This troll is so obvious is not even funny:)

Thumb zahle1 16 March 2015, 21:49

Ok, so the Lebanese army can handle only so many places on the border, right Pajama boy? This terrain is rough, and very porus. No fence... If Ras Baalbek was left to my friends who go on vacation and patrol at night time with flashlight and AK47, they would not be able to stand up to ISIS. I would love a stronger LAF. Its on my wish list. Right now, however, I'm glad to see HA kick their arse, and them get bombed by Assad. This is better than them coming to this town. I have seen the beautiful churches and Icons here, and would rather we keep them than end up like Syria and Iraq.

Thumb _mowaten_ 16 March 2015, 23:39

anonyme asks "Where did you see Assad bombardment there?"

the article says "The Syrian army's jets simultaneously shelled gunmen posts in Syria along the outskirts of Ras Baalbek."

CQFD. goodnight mate. take a break you've been on here ranting all day, must be tiring.

Thumb _mowaten_ 16 March 2015, 23:59

ooooh, so you want them to hit inside lebanon? please decide once and for all, it's too hard to follow your contradictory wishes that change at every comment you blurt out.

Thumb _mowaten_ 17 March 2015, 00:00

and btw, what they just did is called a pincer attack, but i'm sure you wont need to google this one, because you're clearly our naharnet sun tzu.

Thumb zahle1 17 March 2015, 00:42

If the 87k was enough then why do these wackos exist in the border region? Don't tell me I am ungrateful, we all know the army has done an excellent job in Ras Baalbek and lost soldiers. I am saying that even if you are not an Assad supporter or an HA supporter, you cannot deny their benefit against Daesh. Don't twist my words and say I am ungrateful.

Thumb zahle1 17 March 2015, 00:42

anonymetexasusa, yes the LAF is there, and many of died for it, I never discounted that. HA is in the area and does keep the area safer. Do you know anyone in Ras Baalbek? They don't really care for HA but cannot deny their help in this area. Just like you cannot deny the LAF sacrifices in the immediate village. I don't think Nusra and Daesh exist because of HA. I think they exist because we Christians and Shiites exist. They exist because they want a Sunni caliphate in the Levant. Period. They exist because they want my cross. HA and Assad, may want control, but ISIS wants my head and my cross. If Taif was enforced the world would be great, I agree, but we are where we are.

Thumb Mystic 17 March 2015, 08:16

Zahle you are finally one of those, that actually knows what is going on in the ground, not like these Americans living abroad, writing as if they had any idea what's going on thousands miles away.

Thumb liberty 17 March 2015, 06:15

your priest? You are a mouthpiece for HA and Aoun.

Thumb zahle1 17 March 2015, 20:24

Yes my priest. We are not a mouthpiece. Look I am against Syria in Lebanon. In a way they have been chopped down to size a bit. That is good. However, right now, ISIS is a bigger threat to Lebanon than Syria and Israel. I am for Christians being armed and a strong LAF. Nobody will ever disarm so arm up. Its a reality. I understand what Syria did to us, let's not forget. However, there is nothing wrong with admitting that its nice to see Assad and HA taking out some terrorists.

lol you're mentally disturbed man, it's getting worse by the day. You're so unable to accept the fact that not everybody shares your blindness and psychotic obsession, that you start suspecting everyone (paranoia?) who deviates from what you decided is the one and only truth.
Those accounts you mentioned are the original ones, the spellings are identical. If you're that obsessed and still paranoid then ask the site admins to check, write them an email, and we will see what they say.

Thumb zahle1 17 March 2015, 20:03

Listen my friend. I will not call you names. You make accusations and assumptions about me. I remember as a lurker another person with Zahle in the username. I have been on here for years and don't post much because I don't like name calling. I am very active in Detroit, and am very neutral. I got to Lebanon every two years. I remember as a kid Syrian snipers, shooting at us for no reason in Zahle. I am not an Assad fanboy. Please listen. I choose my words carefully. I would agree that HA at times has made an argument that due to the LAF weakness they need to exist. I agree that has been made.

Thumb zahle1 17 March 2015, 20:10

I am stating that if you were on the ground in Ras Baalbek, or other areas, you would pretty much hear the following from the Christian people: "We will never forget with Assad did to us under their occupation in Lebanon, but am glad they are fighting ISIS. We will never forgive HA for helping enable Assad to occupy us, but we are happy they are keeping ISIS away from our village". It is a paradox. Its is a unique dynamic. That is all I am saying. I do not support Aoun. He loves nothing but politics and power. However, let's not be so one sided. Look HA have excellent politicians. Much better than the Christians. If HA would leave the liquor store owners alone in the South, and refrain from certain Islamic rhetoric (we have all seen the videos) we can find common ground. I am not Aouni, I am not HA, but there is an opportunity to change and find common ground.
