French officials are keen to press the Lebanese rivals to reach a settlement regarding the presidential standstill within a comprehensive package, As Safir newspaper reported on Tuesday.

According to the daily, visitors of the Elysee Palace said that France is seeking to resolve the crises that are weakening the Lebanese political system.

Paris is reportedly searching for a settlement that would resolve the presidential deadlock and includes a deal on a new electoral law and an agreement on the upcoming cabinet.

MPs failed for the 20th time last week to elect a new head of state over lack of quorum. President Michel Suleiman's term ended in May without the election of a successor.

Hizbullah and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun's Change and Reform bloc have been boycotting electoral sessions due to a disagreement with the March 14 camp over a compromise presidential candidate.

According to As Safir, French officials also urged the U.S. administration to delay a deal with Iran over its nuclear program until settlements are reached in the region, including Lebanon, citing Tehran's firm stance on some issue if an agreement was reached.

I respect Mr. Mowaten, Mr. Aoun, and Mr. Qassem Suleimani equally.
