English Premier League leaders Chelsea have made a formal offer for F.C. Tokyo and Japan striker Yoshinori Muto.

The 22-year-old Muto has been capped 11 times and scored his first goal for the national team in a 2-2 draw against Venezuela on Sept. 9.

Muto began his professional career at Tokyo last year, scoring 13 goals in 33 games to match the first-division record for a player in his rookie season. He has three goals in four games this season.

Chelsea made the offer at the beginning of March, Kyodo news agency reported Thursday.

Muto was quoted by Japanese media as saying he hasn't decided anything but appreciates the offer.

Financial terms of the offer were not disclosed.
