Report: Qahwaji to Travel to Egypt over Joint Arab Force

Army chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji is expected to attend a meeting for Arab military leaders in Cairo this week following an agreement at an Arab summit to establish a joint force, al-Akhbar daily reported on Tuesday.

Qahwaji will represent Lebanon at Wednesday's meeting which Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi has called for, said the report.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced last month the accord to establish the joint force at the end of the summit he hosted in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Al-Sisi set a four-month timeframe for the 22-member Arab League to decide on the composition and rules of engagement of the joint force.

The Arab League has for months stressed the pressing need for such a force to combat terrorists such as Islamic State group jihadists.

But the Saudi-led Arab air strikes launched last month against Yemen's Iran-backed Shiite Huthi rebels have highlighted the divergent interests and priorities of the League's members.

the sooner this force is created the better it will be for Lebanon.

Thumb _mowaten_ 21 April 2015, 12:11

missing the days when the arab force came to "restore order" in lebanon? some people learn nothing from history.

Thumb EagleDawn 21 April 2015, 12:36

only you learned delusional troll. You were the one who broke through syrian intelligence barriers chanting freedom freedom freedom and then on March 8 and till now you say "Shoukran Souriya". Now focus on the article and stop harassing posters.

Thumb _mowaten_ 21 April 2015, 12:38

keep barking eagleyawn, you're as irrelevant as always.

Default-user-icon reminiscing (Guest) 21 April 2015, 12:51

You probably also remember that the arab force was sidelined by the brave syrian army of assad who liked to "restore order" in lebanon so much it decided to stay indifinatly, even after the lebaneee president, government and parliament asked it to leave. After all lebanon was nothing but a syrian province, one people two countries and such. You probably also remember how the heroic syrian order restoring army high taled to the border ahead of the israeli invading army.

Thumb EagleDawn 21 April 2015, 12:58

mowaten ... but do you have anything remotely relevant to say?

Thumb _mowaten_ 21 April 2015, 13:04

If you couldnt see the relevance of my first comment, it's your problem. Now go play with your toes. Bye.

Thumb -phoenix1 21 April 2015, 13:39

Mowaten, you're talking well over 4 decades ago. Then let us not forget that the ADF was well-intentioned till your masters in Damascus hijacked its very mandate. If humans cannot learn from their mistakes, then what would the outlook be? It's interesting to see a guy like you criticize the very same mistake your party of God is now making, and even worse, repeating.

Missing cedars 21 April 2015, 13:50

Yes we remember and all troops left except the Syrian hegemony which appointed your sector in every government institution illegally thru threatening phone calls from the Syrian moukhabarat.

Thumb ex-fpm 21 April 2015, 14:17

Only yesterday the khomeini nasrallah said once again "Shoukran Souria" while at the same time Smaha confessed to transporting explosives from Syria under direct orders from Assad to kill the batrak and the mufti. So, Nassralah shamefully thanks Assad for killing Lebanese religious and political figures.

Thumb ex-fpm 21 April 2015, 14:21

but you and your ilk love the LAF and praise it every day considering it is commanded by a corrupt traitor .... shameless people!

Thumb -phoenix1 21 April 2015, 14:39

Mystic you said and I quote: Qahwaji is becoming the top head of corruption around here. Unquote. Man, you do have your ways at putting things, so if we have a darn good general doing a darn good job he becomes corrupt? This man is creating a real army, not a militia. This man is keeping a real army that is now getting better and better. This man is not the leader of a militia for rent. You may not know Qahwaji which is pretty obvious by your automated type of remarks, Qahwaji just like Michel Sleymen before him are amongst the cleanest of army people you will ever know. It just baffles me as to why you still haven't noticed a criminal by the name Aoun and his massive corruptions, but of course, need we remind that he is your ally, or no, wait, your stooge and lackey, normal, no?

Thumb Mystic 21 April 2015, 14:40

If I come pass any posters of Qahwaji, I will ripen them down.

Thumb Mystic 21 April 2015, 14:54

Now that is the worst kind of crap phoenix. Qahwaji sold out just like Suleiman, it is the soldiers on the field that should get all the honor, not some Saudi stooges that sold out.

Because Qahwaji is close to be resigned, he now went down and kissed Saudis feet on open screen, so he can get a little more funds than the LAF pension provides.

Just as Suleiman did, before his term ended.

Thumb _mowaten_ 21 April 2015, 14:55

Yes phoenix, it was 4 decades ago. If anything the Arab League has only gotten more ugly, its members more corrupted and its intentions shadier. Are we already ready to do it again?

Thumb _mowaten_ 21 April 2015, 14:57

Today its two most influencial members are Egypt and Saudi, and the two are involved in slaughtering arabs in Yemen under shady pretexts of "iranian involvement"

"It remains our assessment that Iran does not exert command and control over the Houthis in Yemen," Bernadette Meehan, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, told The Huffington Post.

"It is wrong to think of the Houthis as a proxy force for Iran,” a U.S. intelligence official told The Huffington Post.

Thumb -phoenix1 21 April 2015, 15:01

Mystic, what is crap to you isn't for me. You have nothing on Qahwaji, zilch but opinion, fake opinion. The day he dances to your yellow mellow tune, he will become a hero almost as big as Sayed Hassan. You hate the general because he is building up the army, day by day making it better, and we all know what that means for Hezbollah, yes, the Hezbollah that was once a loved, trusted and respected resistance, alas now turned militia for rent. You ya Mystic have nothing on either Qahwaji or Sleymen, before you post such fallacies, you might as well dig out proofs and not hearsay propaganda as your usual. Saying one things is not like proving it, irrefutably that is.

just like your boss who confirmed there were not more than 10 iranians operating in Syria, yes?

Thumb ex-fpm 21 April 2015, 15:08

Mystic, talking of which, Qahwaji's posters are everywhere in Lebanon, not one single one was brought down. yet today, when I go to so many parts of Lebanon, I still see remnants and parts of posters of Sayed Hassan that were unceremoniously torn down. I remember vividly when this started some years ago, personally I felt truly offended and pained by it, to me at least it felt wrong. But today in 2015 try to put up one of his posters in these areas, you could lose your life, could we blame these people? Wlak when Sayed Hassan appears on TV, you ya khaye don't wanna hear the slurs more and more people throw at him. Who is to blame ya Mystic who? Some honesty from you will do.

Thumb Mystic 21 April 2015, 15:27

Qahwaji and Suleiman were ready to sell the army in return of Saudi dollars, thank goodness the whole LAF isn't tied to Qahwaji and his corrupted ways, we have a good LAF with saudi shackled around their legs.

Qahwaji can resign as fast as he was selected, we do not need him at all.
By the way phoenix I doubt there has ever been posters of Sayed Hassan in Ashrafieh, so all I can do as laugh at that.

it is normal they react this way.
btw, let them bark as much as they want, they will change nothing. they do not realize that if they forbid kahwaji from going to that meeting, they will be confirming once more that they are a militia forcing its will on an Arab country, like the houthis are doing.

It's time for the Arab world to rise against evil and defeat the ISIL threat once and for all. Once that is done the Arab world should turn its attention towards Iran and rid it of its evil regime and return it to its people. May the earth be rid of all extremism wherever it exists.

Thumb the_roar 21 April 2015, 11:21

Bandoul, Your debate has no credibility as long as you see with one eye.

Or maybe you watch too much "fox news"..

You call out Iran constantly & want it returned to the people, but to have any credibility with that logic, you must also address other evil regimes or dictatorships.

How about you humor us & address the "un-elected" un-democratic family owned nation of KSA...& maybe you could be taken seriously.

until then enjoy your biased postings which amount to nothing more than propaganda without a hint of true facts.

Thumb -phoenix1 21 April 2015, 15:06

Mowaten I cannot refuse that the Arab League has its problems, yes, you're right, some are ugly too. But what is wrong when an organization is trying to work on its mistakes and build up on its strengths, where is the problem? If this was your approach, then why build Dubai and the UAE masalan or other Gulf states? The situation today calls for an Arab Deterrent Force and this is because a problem exists thus a solution needs to be found. Can we forever look at Arabs as Jarab and uneducated? Or at Iranian as brainwashed and rigid? Don't humans learn with time? However I am cautioning that creating such a force just for the sake of it will certainly result in even worse predicaments.

Thumb the_roar 21 April 2015, 11:27

The creation of a pan Arab Deterrent Force cannot come any time sooner. All contributing countries must come to benefit from it in case things go from bad to worse. But for the force to be credible, it must be strong with the best training and best logistics. It also must not be used by any one side for political ends, thus only the Arab League could mandate the intervention of such a force, if and when justifiably called for.

Mowaten has learned very well the practice of Taqiya.

For you Momo, from a link on the website you cited above:

"A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the Quds Force, the external arm of the Revolutionary Guard, had a "few hundred" military personnel in Yemen who train Houthi fighters."

"The official said there were a dozen Iranian military advisers in Yemen, and the pace of money and arms getting to the Houthis had increased since their seizure of Sanaa."

""Everything is about the balance of power in the region. Iran wants a powerful Shi'ite presence in the region that is why it has got involved in Yemen as well," said the Iranian official."

Missing people-power 21 April 2015, 18:10

More quotes from website linked in Momo's comments above:

"Iran has supplied weapons, money and training to the Shi'ite Houthi militia that seized Yemen's capital in September, as Tehran steps up its regional power struggle with Saudi Arabia, Yemeni and Iranian officials say."

"Reuters has details -- from Yemeni, Western and Iranian sources -- of Iranian military and financial support to the Houthis before and after their takeover of Sanaa on Sept. 21"

"A few days after the Sanaa takeover, Houthi gunmen surrounded the National Security headquarters calling for the release from jail of eight Yemeni crew members.

They were freed, as were two suspected Hezbollah members jailed for planning to provide military training to the Houthis."
