Girault Starts Crunch Presidency Talks on Two-Day Visit

The Director of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa at the French Foreign Ministry, Jean-François Girault, began Thursday touring senior Lebanese officials to tackle the latest developments, in particularly the presidential vacuum.

Girault discussed with Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil at the Bustros Palace the general situation in the region and Lebanon.

He left without making any statement.

The French diplomat arrived Wednesday night on a two-day visit. He will meet with Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Tammam Salam and political leaders.

Girault's visit coincides with that of Papal envoy to Lebanon former Foreign Minister Monsignor Dominique Mamberti, who left Lebanon on Thursday morning.

Mamberti pressed the importance of ending the presidential vacuum during his meeting with Lebanese officials.

Media reports had said that France, the Vatican and Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi are synchronizing their efforts to end the presidential vacuum.

Girault expressed pessimism over the protracting presidential vacuum during his last visit in February, considering an imminent breakthrough is not possible.

Lebanon has been without a president since May last year when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of his successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps have thwarted the elections.

The French diplomat had been in shuttle diplomacy where he held talks in Riyadh, Tehran, Washington and the Vatican over the presidential crisis.

Please take back the Caporal to France and save Lebanon.

as long as you keep begging foreign powers to "save" you, you're being no more than a pet, a subservient beggar, and be sure nothing will save you from that self-inflicted condition.

Really @ _mowaten_, really? The saying in our humble village in Upper Matn rings so true vis your comment:
شوف ألإدّة يلّي بعينك قبل ما تشوف ألنسرة بعين غيرك

see me begging for foreign intervention? begging them to take geagea or hariri or jumby? begging other states to come and save me? telling them to come rid us of takfiris or israelis?
if they had converging interests with us and offered their sincere support it could and would be accepted, but thinking france will come save you just because you whined is pathetic.

proud people take responsibility for their own struggles, and the credit for the achievements come with it. cheap slimes ask others to solve their problems for them and end up beggars and slaves.

Yes I do see you begging Iran in the same manner you are accusing others of doing.
As for the pride you mention, spare us the polemics and the broken record ملّينا.
Your belief as to what constitutes proud people - read only HA and the Shiites that either blindly follow or are coerced into towing the line - is anathema to more than half of the Lebanese and most Arabs. Believe what you want and at the same time do have the decency of respecting majority Arab views.

Lol you really take your dreams for reality, saying you saw me or anyone "begging iran" when you actually never did, only imagined it (I challenge you to give me any direct quote showing otherwise)
All this is even funnier when opposed to humble's begging above, which you seem to have not noticed! Weird how you fail to see what is in front of you, while at the same time thinking you've seen something that you never actually have.

Also don't pretend to be speaking for "Arabs", which are a much vaster people than what you seem to imagine or comprehend (you only reflected the sunni saudi and gulfy view). If any of my words were directed at Arabs (which isn't the case, I don't see why you bring that up), then let them answer and don't pose as their spokesperson.

Does _mowaten claim that the Shia majority in Lebanon should have its votes counted the same way Christian votes are counted, so that the majority of the Parliament might turn out to be Shia?
