Report: Salam is Serious on Resignation

W460

Prime Minister Tammam Salam is "not kidding" when it comes to his resignation on the backdrop of the governmental crisis, and he will not keep guard for attempts to obstruct cabinet, governmental sources told al-Mustaqbal daily on Sunday.

“Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement have not offered any initiative what so ever on Salam to find a solution for the governmental crisis,” they said.

“Since the debate triggered by Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil with Salam during the cabinet session that was held before Eid al-Fitr, and the visit of (Hizbullah Minister) Mohammed Fneish to the Grand Serail praising the PM's wisdom, no serious steps have been recorded,” added the sources on condition of anonymity.

However they pointed to the escalatory measures announced by Hizbullah's parliamentary bloc in a statement “where the party announced a new path to be taken to confront the government.”

Salam has threatened lately that he would submit his resignation to object the “paralysis” caused by the Free Patriotic Movement.

The cabinet crisis grew earlier this month when Free Patriotic Movement Minister Jebran Bassil bickered with Salam during a session after accusing him of infringing on the Christian president's powers in the absence of a head of state.

The cabinet has been paralyzed since early June when Salam suspended the sessions over a dispute on the appointment of high-ranking security and military officials.

Free Patriotic Movement ministers have warned they would boycott any session whose agenda is not topped by the appointments.

The parliament has also been paralyzed over a dispute between the rival MPs on the presidential elections.

Their rivalry has left Baabda Palace vacant since the expiry of President Michel Suleiman's term in May last year.

The situation is very serious as everything is paralysed (caused by Aoun sel and family interest).
In such circumstances the only solution is the assumption of the presidency by the army chief.
Welcome to any pleased one to support and tough luck to any angry one. Let them stop whining and if necessary with the help of UN.
For the benefit of some we're not losing our country.

Mr PM, please don't resign, this is what the traitors want: chaos and void of institutions.

It's up to PM Salam if he wants to resign, nobody is forcing him to stay.
I do believe though that he should stay in office. Better to have him around than nobody at all.

Why should he sacrifice his chances? The blackmail works both ways as I see it, and its no doubt that its the christian posts thats victimized. Its no doubt either that FPM is currently the christian party with the highest representation until a new election shows otherwise. To not acknowledge this fact is to disrepects the voters.

You can't have the cake and eat it too. Either this parliament and this government are illegitimate (as Aoun keeps claiming) or they are legitimate (and they can make decisions, including the appointments). You can't have it both ways.

You can't claim to be defending Christian rights, and not go to Parliament and elect a president.

Aoun can't say that any one of the 4 big Christian zaïms is a strong Christian representative, then say that he's either elected or no one gets elected.

You see, your party is a piece of shit family business. From nephews, to nieces, to son-in-laws, everything is controlled by the family mafia. So, spare us the crap about Christian rights.

What this representation has to do with presidential elections???

If most MP's do not want to elect someone who is an agent to Iran, an ally to the Butcher and a mentally ill person....what has it got to do with Christian representation????

Are there no Christians who are more competent, more intelligent, more honest, more patriots, and more sane than this lousy caporal?
Even Sleiman Frangieh is much better than the Caporal.
"Anybody, but NOT the caporal"!!!

Last time I checked march 14 had only 60 out of 128 seats in parlament, not a majority. Anyway, I just look for a way out of this mess. Instead of the fixed positions, why not show a gesture of good will? Starting by agreeing on the mechanisms, elect top security posts. If Chamel Roukoz is the best candidate, why not elect him? There was no veto from FPM against Rifi as justice minister. The fixed positions will push Lebanon closer to the abyss.

Thumb beiruti 26 July 2015, 18:59

This would be a huge mistake. It is the determined strategy of Hezbollah and FPM to completely collapse the government. They have done with with Parliament, with the Presidency and now the final effort with the Council of Ministers. It is only when the Taif Government has totally collapsed, that the Hezbollah project can see the light of day. The Hezbollah project for Lebanon will deliver all Lebanon into Hezbollah's hand. With Assad fading in Syria, Iran charming the US, Hezbollah, to survive, needs to be its own state and that state, unless this whole thing can be stopped, is the Republic of Lebanon. HA wants to transform this to the Islamic Republic of Lebanon. Step One, paralyze and collapse entirely the current government and government framework. Then Step Two, build from the ashes of that collapse.
