Syrian President Says Priority is Defeating Terrorism

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Syria's President Bashar Assad urged Syrian political and armed factions to unite in the fight against terrorist groups and said in comments aired Tuesday that there can be no political solution for the country's brutal civil war before terrorism is defeated.

Speaking in an interview with Russian media, he also blamed Europe for the refugee crisis currently hitting the continent, saying it is a direct result of the West's support of extremists in Syria over the past four years.

The Russian president has said it is impossible to defeat the Islamic State group without cooperating with Damascus. In recent days Moscow has sent about a half-dozen battle tanks and other weaponry — along with military advisers, technicians, security guards and portable housing units — to Syria with the apparent goal of setting up an air base near the coastal town of Latakia, a stronghold of the Syrian President.

U.S. officials have said Moscow is simply trying to prop up Assad.

In the interview Assad did not directly address the Russian moves, only praising Moscow as an "independent state" and an "impartial" broker of dialogue between Syrian groups.

He urged the formation of a united front against the Islamic State group, saying the priority of every single Syrian citizen is to be secure.

"We, the political parties, the government and the armed groups that fought against the government, we must all unite in the name of combating terrorism," Assad said.

He said dialogue can continue, but added that nothing can be implemented unless terrorism is defeated first.

Assad also said Europe is to blame for the refugee crisis, citing also what he described as a failure to enforce a controlled immigration system, forcing refugees to set out across perilous seas.

"We all mourn these innocent victims but is one life lost drowned at sea more valuable than those who have died in Syria? How can one be indignant about a drowned child and remain silent about the death of thousands of children, elderly people, women and men killed by terrorists in Syria? These European double standards are unacceptable," he said.

"Europe is to blame in its principles because it supports terrorism and continues to do so, it provides protection for terrorists, calling them moderates, divides them into groups, when they are in fact the terrorist groups in Syria," he said.

Addressing Europeans, Assad added: "Stop, if you are worried about them (refugees), stop supporting terrorists."

The Syrian government considers all armed groups fighting to topple Assad to be terrorists.

Assad is a hero, the takfiris thought he would be gone within months. The takfiris of March 14 thought this too, but their dreams never came true.
Now the U.S knows that without Assad, there will never be peace in Syria. Because the takfiris would takeover and spread beyond Syria.
Russia too realized this, and there is nothing the U.S can do to stop it.

The Axis of Resistance continues until judgement day if needed. The takfiris will not be allowed to conquer Syria, so get it out of your heads. If the West doesn't want anymore refugees, then they should stop supporting the influx of terrorists and armaments to them.

Many commentators were joyous at the start of the Syrian civil war with many hoping that the Syrian government would fall because of their sectarian hatred or from the hope of revenge for the Syrian involvement in the killing of Lebanese and the occupation, destruction and theft of our country. I've always said from the beginning that nothing good comes from war in Syria and Lebanon will ultimately pay the price! Now we have 1.5 million Syrians, 500 thousand Palestinians, 90 thousand Iraqis and 50 thousand Egyptian refuges! We are drowning in our own waste and have the same loser thieving politicians in parliament for over 6 years that can only agree on renewing their own pay cheques and terms!

This is the result of a Syrian civil war! May God help end this war and rid Lebanon of all our refugees! Please Lord... save us from our neighbours!

1anonymetexasusa, from the 2nd week of the "protests" in Hama, they were holding banners that said "Christians to Beirut and Allawites in the coffin"! This is fact and clear! The syrian response to the initial protests were brutal and savage (as expected from any dictatorial regime) but the Syrian army was also shot at in Daraa, and in Deir al-Zor village, the whole police station were beheaded and put on stakes! This was the immediate beginning of this "peaceful revolution"! The result is what we see today! I can go on with many examples of beheadings and slaughter of christian priests and pro government civilians that occurred in the 1st year before the "civil war" became officially! Assad immediately gave many reforming policies including legalising political parties and the kurds... but the blood had been spilt and the real reason for this revolt was underway!

To mystic and othe Hezbollah lovers. You live in Lebanon not Iran or Syria. If you don't like being patriotic to your country leave just leave. When will you understand the Lebanon needs only the Lebanese army and its people. Forget your religion but love God and have faith. It is having groups not a country that is the root of problems for Lebanon. The Syrians and Iranians are only using you guys. Remember when the PLO used the Muslim officers in the army only to get the tanks and weapons. If the army stayed strong Lebanon would have remained a great country. Think about that
