Children among Dead in Russian Strikes on Syria

Two children were among at least seven civilians killed in air strikes carried out by Russian warplanes in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib, a monitoring group said Friday, citing witnesses.

"Four civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed in raids conducted by Russian military aircraft," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The air strikes hit the district of Jabal al-Zawiya, in an area under the control of Al-Qaida's affiliate in Syria and other Islamist rebel groups, said the Britain-based monitor.

"Three other civilians, including a girl and a woman, were killed in bombing by these planes of the village of Habeet," in the same province that borders Turkey, said the group, which relies on a network of sources on the ground for its information.

Russian air strikes on Syria have killed 28 people since they were launched on Wednesday, according to the Observatory.

Syria's main opposition group accused Moscow of killing 36 civilians in the central province of Homs on Wednesday, but the Kremlin has denied any civilians were among the dead.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has hit back at the allegations, describing them as "information warfare".

Moscow says it is targeting the Islamic State jihadist group, but Washington and its allies suspect its military intervention is aimed at keeping in power President Bashar Assad under the guise of fighting "terrorism".

IS is not known to be operational in the areas targeted by Russia on Thursday.

Are Al Qaedas affiliates not terrorists now Naharnet?
The West started talking about civilian deaths long before the Russians did the strikes.
All the takfiris are the same, only their group names are different.
Let's not forget the U.S coalitions strikes on civilians now, not just in Syria but Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq etc. etc.

You are completely right. Millions are killed in Irak, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South America, Vietnam, Japan ... all in the name of DEMOCRACY all with US arms and US direct and indirect engagement... all these millions are called collateral damage or whatever excuses when it comes to the US! The US got the opprotunity to lead the world but they failed! They just need some time to realise their failure.

Unlike the innocent children killed by the american collision air strikes the russian and syrian air strikes only kill takfiri children so it's cool and halal under the geneva convention.

putin is not in syria to eradicate the islamists only. he is there to eradicate ALL forms of opposition to bashar and to secure his naval bases. period.
that is why M8ers are jerking off: their president has more support and bloody tyranny is defended even if it means killing anyone....
