Report: Riyadh Continues to Veto Aoun, Mustaqbal Says No Elections despite Candidacies

Al-Mustaqbal chief ex-PM Saad Hariri has informed his movement's officials that Saudi Arabia continues to veto the candidacy of Free Patriotic Movement founder MP Michel Aoun for the presidency, al-Akhbar daily reported on Wednesday.

Several officials, including al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc leader MP Fouad Saniora, traveled to Saudi Arabia on Monday following Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea's endorsement of Aoun.

The Mustaqbal bloc issued a statement on Tuesday, hailing the reconciliation between the LF and the FPM.

But the bloc did not take a stance from Geagea's move.

Despite al-Mustaqbal bloc's vague statement, Hariri was clear to announce to his movement's officials that he will continue to hold onto the candidacy of Marada Movement chief MP Suleiman Franjieh, March 14 alliance sources told al-Akhbar.

“Today, we have candidates but no elections,” Hariri reportedly said, ruling out their ability to garner enough votes to be elected.

According to al-Akhbar, the officials who met with Hariri described the rapprochement between Geagea and Aoun as an “uncalculated risk.”

Hariri struck a deal with Franjieh late last year to back him for the presidency in return form the Mustaqbal leader to become prime minister.

Geagea's support for Aoun in an attempt to end the 20-month presidential deadlock is not seen sufficient to end the Baaaba Palace vacuum that was caused over lack of quorum at the parliament.

President Michel Suleiman's six-year term ended in May 2014.

Mostaqbal are to blame for the Presidential void. Yet they point fingers at others. Hypocrites

Thumb justin 20 January 2016, 09:47

Yet, they are the ones going to parliament every session and attempting to achieve quorum while your terrorist militia is busy killing in Syria.

Another report by Al Akbar, Hezbollah mouthpiece.

Mowaten, true and it is bad thing to do. However your HA is much worse in that regards. THey do not have to go to Iran to consult because their political and military Iranian advisers are stationed in Dahye. Your live in a house of glass and accusing the other side of similar deeds is sheer hypocrisy.

I don't have a problem with mustakbal not wanting aoun. That is democracy and each to their own. That is why we have elections. The issue is and has been hezbollah and aoun not wanting to elect aoun by refraining from attending the scheduled sessions. As to the source of this fabricated report ; al akhbar, I am not sure why a respectable news outlet such Nahar would even publish this report.

Thumb _mowaten_ 20 January 2016, 11:19

what a pile of junk you just posted. hezbollah supports aoun and has been supporting him all along. but as long as the threat of ending up with a convicted war criminal as president was looming, the only possible was to prevent quorum from being attained.
in the mean time, al akhbar or not al akhbar, the fact that m14 rushes to saudia everytime there is a new development is indicative of the kind of pawns they are.

Thumb _mowaten_ 20 January 2016, 11:19

the only possible way* was

You guys keep claiming this, it's your first and last propaganda line (that and a 40 year old video saying Nasrallah wants to establish an Islamic republic in Lebanon). But I've never seen an actual concrete sign of Hezbollah making a decision that was not dictated by their principles and the interests of Lebanon.

In the mean time, it's your so-called "leaders" who come and go from Saudi and take their instructions from the Saudi bosses, or their half-Saudi puppy Saadoun. So think again, who's the ridiculous one?

Missing peace 20 January 2016, 12:25

"But I've never seen an actual concrete sign of Hezbollah making a decision that was not dictated by their principles and the interests of Lebanon."
1/ your party pledeged allegiance to iran: what does that mean? it means to OBEY... check in the dictionary if you have one and if you know how to read....
2/ of course you will not see anything, fanatics all have the same answers as you do...
3/ hezbollah acts not for the interests of Lebanon as you pretend otherwise they would OBEY the laws and constitution of Lebanon!
and obey the president of Lebanon if they acknowledged his role... LOL

so please stop your hypocrisy, no one is fooled by your desperate defense of an antilebanese party....

Thumb _mowaten_ 20 January 2016, 12:51

I just said I saw your propaganda, but no concrete actions by Hezbollah. And you repost your propaganda? hahaha dude, you truly are decerebrated drone. I suggest you go to saudi and ask them to upgrade your brain with some fresher software, because this one is really getting old.

Missing peace 20 January 2016, 14:38

getting old sure mooowaten... that is why hezbollah still calls itself the "islamic resistance" but not the "lebanese resistance"...

only here to protect their sectarian interests, but not the lebanese ones as their flag clearly mentions it... pityful mooowaten....

Thumb marcus 20 January 2016, 12:37

the pile of junk is what you post on a daily basis and every moment. I told you before and I tell you now, NEVER ever address me or try to engage me. Your claim that your militia of terror, drugs, and crime was not ensuring quorum was to prevent a war criminal from becoming president is as credible as all your paid posts. Hezbollah and Aoun attended the first session in which Geagea was voted with 48 + votes and they put in white papers or some vindictive expressions on their vote papers. Now go back to your loser life ...

Thumb _mowaten_ 20 January 2016, 12:39

"NEVER ever address me or try to engage me." hahahaha, yea right, i'll point out your BS every time i feel like it. If you cant take the heat then avoid public forums, stay in your cave with your like-minded decerebrated trolls and flatter each other by parroting your rotten propaganda.

Thumb ex-fpm 20 January 2016, 13:11

lol@marcus! very valid points and the troll forgot to mention that his employer now seems not to mind that a "convicted war criminal" will vote for michel aoun.

Thumb _mowaten_ 20 January 2016, 14:13

should i stop supporting aoun because he won? lol you guys are pathetic with your pitiful arguments

Thumb EagleDawn 21 January 2016, 11:45

Report: Riyadh Continues to Veto Aoun reported AL Akhbar!!!

For as long as I remember on this forum, the Hezbollah trolls have been accusing Samir Geagea of being a Saudi paid politician and every time he traveled to KSA, all the above trolls without exception said " he was going to collect his paycheck". Yet, when now Geagea nominates Aoun, they say KSA is still vetoing Aoun.

Missing peace 20 January 2016, 12:45

they adjust their propaganda according to what they want to feed their sheep....they have no consistency, why should they care? their sheep are ready to gob anything as if it were the divine word, no questions asked... that is why only braindead people support them!
yesterday those against the islamic resistance were called zionists, today they are called takfiris, tomorrow maybe it will be martians! LOL

"He supports the Assad's best friend ever"

and who does your terrorist leader support? George Bush?

Thumb beiruti 20 January 2016, 18:48

"an uncalculated risk". Well, that tells a story. Saad has rather unabashedly assumed the patent role of Saudi surrogate to the counsels of the Lebanese Government. Because KSA is not on board with the Lebanese Presidency being determined, then Saad leads Mustaqbel into boycott? He has been out of the country too long. His loyalty rather openly lies with KSA. If one is Lebanese, then Lebanon should be the first priority, the last priority, the middling priority - The Priority.
The vacuum in state institutions must end in Lebanon so that it is not absorbed into Iran as some sort of western colony on the Mediterranean. Sure Aoun is a poor choice. Franghieh is worse. Geagea can't get elected. So take Mashnoon, he will not live forever.
