Aoun Warns against Creating 'Annexes' to Proportional Representation Law

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Thursday noted that the proportional representation law “will not be adopted” in the current form proposed by Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, warning against creating “annexes” to the law.

In an interview with Hizbullah’s Al-Manar television, Aoun said the law “will not be adopted as proposed by minister Charbel; I’m with this law and there can be many variations to the electoral process, but before endorsing them there should be a discussion so that we can choose the most representative one.”

“Any electoral system must allow interaction with all the components of the society and it must not isolate a sect from the other, which means that the electoral law must not contain an isolationist philosophy,” Aoun added.

Aoun noted that despite all political parties agreeing that proportional representation was the solution, “they have been creating annexes that would make the solution impossible, for example the Progressive Socialist Party has backtracked, the Phalange Party has not voiced an opinion so far, the Lebanese Forces want a sectarian law and those familiar with the Mustaqbal Movement’s tactics have stressed that it would not accept proportional representation.”

You have never (and never will) been able to compose with others. The only satisfactory sollution for you would be to be president with an assembly of Aounists!
You can create it at Deir el Salib!
