Report: Serious Talk on Electing Aoun for a Two-Year Term

A suggestion to elect the founder of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun as president could be underway, garnering the blessing of two political parties, the Saudi Okaz daily reported on Sunday.

“There is a serious proposal to elect MP Michel Aoun as head of the Lebanese state for a two-year period,” well-informed sources told the daily.

“The proposal is a serious one and it has the approval of two political parties where one of them has guaranteed to market the idea to Hizbullah,” they said on condition of anonymity.

Lebanon has been without a president since May 2014 when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps have thwarted the elections.

Hizbullah announced earlier this year that it would boycott electoral sessions unless it receives guarantees that its candidate, Change and Reform bloc chief MP Michel Aoun, is elected head of state.

Marada movement chief MP Suleiman Franjieh is also a candidate. He rose to the forefront of the presidential polls late last year when he was backed by al-Mustaqbal Movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri.

The Marada chief and Aoun, who are former allies, are the main contenders for the presidential post which has been left vacant since May 2014.

Why would we want a madman in our History? He should be in an asylum.
Still many Christians do not know who he really is.

This is the most realistic proposal to end this stalemate. I believe that Michel Aoun can perform a lot better that a lot of doomsday preachers here. Remember there wasnt a lot of optimism when Michel Sueiman, a general who had risen up the ranks in the army under syrian tutelage, took office. It turned out that he wasnt that bad afterall.

If the talk is about electing Aoun, then it is not serious.

On the other if only 2 years, let's get it over. We need some kind of president.

Hezbollah will not have him for even 2 minutes. This Aoun is the most destructive element ever to infect Lebanon. From 1989 forward his blind ambition to be called "Raese" President of the Republic has destroyed the Republic and still that hard head persists. What will he be "President for a Day" of?? A garbage heap of his own creation.

March 14 doesnt seem to agree with you, except LF/Geagea. If they are so sure that he is not acceptable for Hezbollah, then why not call the bluff and support his candidacy and thereby expose Nasrallah/Berri?

The choices are sick:
Frangieh, the retarted stupid or Aoun the mentally retarded.
