Head of the Mustaqbal Movement MP Saad Hariri held talks on Friday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, highlighting Ankara's role in the region and Iran's “negative” one.

He said: “We seek good ties with Tehran, but its negative meddling in the affairs of the countries of the region are preventing us from achieving this goal.”

“We believe that Turkey can play a major role in reaching stability in the region,” he added.

He also explained to Erdogan the ongoing vacuum in the presidency, stressing that the country is suffering because of the large number of refugees.

Erdogan explained that his country is also tolerating the burden of refugees.

“We therefore agreed to cooperate to push the international community to assist us more in this issue,” Hariri revealed.

Commenting on the presidential vacuum, he denied claims that he was seeking international support for a certain candidate.

The MP had traveled to Turkey late Thursday night.

He is accompanied by former minister Bassem Sabeh and his advisor Ghattas Khoury.

He is scheduled to later hold talks with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
