French Union Says No Plans to Disrupt Transport to Euro Opener

France's main union said Friday that striking transport workers had been instructed not to block football fans from reaching the Paris stadium for the Euro 2016 kick off.

"All the supporters will be able to reach the Stade de France stadium this evening," CGT union leader Philippe Martinez, adding that despite an ongoing train strike "there are no instructions to disrupt actions at stadiums, or to disrupt matches."

Concerns were high that fans would struggle to reach the Stade de France just north of Paris due to a strike slowing the main train line to the national stadium.

Martinez said that only eight percent of train drivers were on strike and he was confident there would be no delays.

"There will be no problem tonight, we have enough drivers to get spectators to the match," he said in an interview with Le Parisien website.
