The Kataeb party said on Monday it took the right decision when it decided to stay out of the government in light of what it described as fight over distribution of shares among political parties.

“In light of the latest developments as for the electoral law, oil and gas decrees, the Costa Brava crisis, the birds threatening flights safety and the corruption in various state administrations, it was right to stay in the opposition side,” a senior Kataeb source told al-Joumhouria daily on condition of anonymity.

“In spite of the psychological and media war being waged against us to tarnish our image and intimidate us politically, we will continue in the opposition,” the source assured..

“We will continue in the opposition in accordance with the political and parliamentary principles in order to save democracy from bargains and distribution of shares.”

However, the source stressed that Kataeb “never stood against national understandings that entrench stability and protect political, intellectual and cultural diversity.”

He assured that the party is “keen on differentiation between national understandings to rebuild the state and produce power, and the authoritarian quotas that destroy the rest of Lebanon's characteristics and the state's foundation and institutions.”
