A Czech wedding party ended in tears, bruises and the drunk tank last Saturday as the inebriated newlyweds started a fight outside a restaurant, the police said Tuesday.

"The bride and the groom attacked each other. They were both drunk, and they both ended up with bruises," police spokeswoman Jana Mazourova told Agence France Predsse.

The incident between the 31-year-old bride and the 22-year-old bridegroom occurred in the central Czech town of Havlickuv Brod, about 100 kilometers southeast of the capital Prague.

"The bride, who refused a breathalyser test, ended up in a drunk tank. The police were afraid she would keep attacking her husband," said Mazourova.

The couple is facing a fine for the incident handled by the police as a minor offence. Mazourova said she had no information about whether divorce proceedings were under way.
