The muftis council in Lebanon is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting Sunday, headed by Grand mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani, to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon.

Qabbani told the daily An Nahar in remarks published on Sunday that the meeting is dedicated to study the situation in Lebanon in light of Arab and international efforts to help the country end its crisis.

The Higher Islamic Council had convened on Saturday under Qabbani to address the situation in Lebanon after the toppling of the government.

It voiced in a statement its rejection of all attacks against political and religious figures, expressing its support to Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri to head a new cabinet "seeing as he is enjoys the greatest popular and parliamentary backing."
