Bassil: Parliament Must Conform to National Pact, FPM Sacrificing Seats to Avoid Extension
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةFree Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil stressed Friday that respect for the 1943 National Pact must also involve parliament, not only the government, as he noted that the FPM is ready to “sacrifice” parliamentary seats in order to avoid another extension of parliament's term.
“The electoral law is the means through which the Lebanese take their rights and the specter of extension must be dispelled,” Bassil added during an FPM ceremony.
“We cannot believe that more than 20 proposed electoral laws have all failed to receive approval,” the FPM said, concluding that “some parties are seeking extension.”
“No to extension and yes to a new law,” he stressed.
Bassil also announced that the FPM is willing to “sacrifice seats” in order to avoid extension while emphasizing that it can never “sacrifice the National Pact.”

Tell that to Berri and to his puppet master little man. He's refused to submit any and all of these laws to Parliament for deliberation, vote and approval under trumped up excuses. Two of these laws were submitted by Berri's own block and one was approved by his, Hizballah's, the C&R's ministers in the Mikati cabinet. Berri's puppet master is worried about the expected FPM/LF electoral alliance and how it will loosen his grip on a couple of dozen Christian MP.
Who, exactly, agreed to the National Pact? How many persons? Who were they? As it stands, Article 24 of the Constitution, which gives half of Parliament to Christians regardless of how people vote, cannot be changed by the current arrangement since these Christian MPs will just block the amendment process. I have not read the rest of the Constitution: is there a public-access, petition-driven, amendment process via a referendum?

zulfiquar... we have heard this story many...many...many times... what is your twisted logic? What are you saying? Taef braught the equilibrium, and the speaker of the chamber is of shia confession...the Christian President is almost powerless... every confession in this country has veto power de facto...so what are you saying?
The one who feel superior might be the ones that work, pay their electricity bills, strive for peace, try to bring investments in this country... contrary to the ones who are warmongers, thieves, steal at the port and the airport, smuggle weapons, and enrich themselves with drug dealing...
