Spanish center Marc Gasol said on Monday that he has reached a tentative agreement on a new NBA contract that will keep him playing for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Gasol, the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol, announced the deal on his Twitter microblogging website.

"I'm proud to say that we have reached a tentative agreement with my team," Gasol wrote. "Can't wait to get on the court with all my teammates!"

The Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis reported Gasol agreed upon a four-year deal worth almost $58 million, the most he could be paid as a free agent.

The 7-foot Spaniard is expected to take a physical on Tuesday and report to practice by Wednesday.

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley had said the club would match any offer for Gasol in order for the team to keep lineup that pushed Oklahoma City to seven games in their best-of-seven second-round series last season.

With Gasol and Zach Randolph patrolling the paint, the Grizzlies led the NBA in scoring from near the basket with 51.5 points a game.
