Geagea: Some Trying to Use Lebanon to Bestow Legitimacy on Assad Regime

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea warned Wednesday that some parties "are trying to use Lebanon and the Lebanese government to bestow legitimacy on Bashar al-Assad's regime," shortly after a cabinet session witnessed controversy over an expected visit by some ministers to Syria.

“The Turkish and Jordanian governments have managed to return 100,000 Syrian refugees through cooperation with the United Nations, whereas here we have parties seeking to consult with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad while forgetting that the refugees had escaped from him in the first place,” said Geagea at a press conference in Maarab.

“Those who want to return to Syria can return to the Assad-controlled regions from this very moment,” Geagea added, noting that refugees refraining from returning to regime-held areas are staying in Lebanon out of fear of political persecution or bloodshed.

The LF leader lamented that there are Lebanese parties who are “trying to give people the impression that the refugees' return is hinging on cooperation with Assad.”

“They tried to press in this direction in the cabinet session,” Geagea decried.

He added: “There is no real Syrian government and the reconstruction of Syria without a political solution is impossible.”

“Things in the cabinet are unacceptable and we do not tolerate any official communication between the Lebanese and Syrian governments,” Geagea emphasized.

“Any minister who wants to visit Syria can do so in his personal capacity, but not in an official manner, and we hope the cabinet will take a clear stance in this regard amid these circumstances,” the LF leader went on to say.

According to an official statement issued after Wednesday's cabinet session, Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed during the meeting the importance of dissociating Lebanon from “regional conflicts and axes.”

“If a minister wants to visit Syria, he can go but without a decision from cabinet,” Information Minister Melhem Riachi told reporters after the session, emphasizing that “any such visit will not be authorized by Cabinet.”

Dactor Geagea has earned my respect and captured my imagination for many reasons chief among them:
1) Vehemently opposing proportional representation
2) Vehemently supporting proportional representation
3) Having reservations on the Policy Statement
4) Having No Hostility towards Hezbollah
5) Abiding by the 3 No-No's Rule
6) Supporting a Made-In-Lebanon President elected by an illegitimate Parliament
7) Supporting a Strong State without the presence of 'Illegitimate Armed Groups'
8) Assuring us the Cedar Revolution is well and alive
9) For alerting us that Some are Trying to Use Lebanon to Bestow Legitimacy on Assad Regime

Assad is already legitimate, he is the internationally recognized President of Syria.

His government is represented by the UN.

Your personal grudges doesn't matter.

The Mystic, boyfriend I am glad to see that you have calmed down from your lunatic rant of yesterday typical to the community you belong to, #notjudging. That bad batch you got from Hajj Nou7 Z3ayter really did a trick on you. Are you feeling better, did you completely come down? You seem to. You know that I was worried sick. I guess I dodged the bullet by not having some due to a previously scheduled mani-pedi. If Hajj Nou7 Z3ayter was not a very respected member of the me7war al moukawam wal moumana2a I would've giving him a tongue lashing... no silly, not the kind I give you LOL.

When I claim something I'd like to show proof:

here is Geagea bestowing "legitimacy" only on the Gulf dictatorships that pay him

here is Sayyed Hassan confirming that Geagea only bestows "legitimacy" on the Gulf dictatorships that pay him
