Gunmen Attack Military-Run Secondary School in North Nigeria

Gunmen have attacked a military-run secondary school in northern Nigeria, an air force official said Friday, reporting two officers wounded, though a doctor said four were killed.

"There was an attack on the air force comprehensive school by unknown gunmen," the air force official said on condition of anonymity. The incident late Thursday at the boarding school outside the city of Kano.

"Two of our officers have been injured and are receiving treatment in hospital."

A doctor said on condition of anonymity that four air force personnel were killed. The school was being heavily guarded on Friday, while a series of other incidents also occurred in the area Thursday night, including an attack on a police station that left an officer wounded.

"There was an attack on a police station by people we suspect to be armed robbers," said police spokesman Magaji Majia. "A policeman was shot and injured and has been hospitalized."

Residents reported that gunfire also broke out in another area on the outskirts of Kano on Thursday night.

Nigeria's north has been hit by scores of attacks blamed on the Islamist sect known as Boko Haram, but Kano, the North’s largest city, has not been targeted since the latest round of violence blamed on the group began in 2010.
