Three security officers were injured on Tuesday night when residents near the Palestinian refugee camp of Sabra in Beirut pelted them with stones while they were seeking to curb the construction of an illegal building.

The National News Agency said Wednesday that an Internal Security Forces patrol was seeking to end the violation with the help of the Army when scores of young men and women pelted them with stones.

Several of the protesters also opened fire on them, forcing the patrol to fire in the air to disperse the crowds, the agency said.

But three officers were injured in the incident and the patrol left the area without being able to end the construction of the illegal building, NNA added.

Also Tuesday, a gunfight erupted between the ISF and Qobbeh residents in the northern port city of Tripoli after a dispute over efforts to curb illegal construction.

When the state hands it's decisions to others you expect to harvest chaos.
Our state is, and has been, weak for years, simply because there is no strict enforcement of the law. Small example: Traffic violation that can be sorted by a phone call.....Goes up the ladder to reach vital regulatory decisions that affects political interests...AAAAAAAKH YA BALADNA!!!

This happened in the sabra neighborhood, not in the refugee camp so i dont see why its relevent to write that it is near the Palestinian refugee camp. By doing so, you are sneakingly implying that it was residents of the r.camp (mostly palestinian) who did this when it was actually citizens from the sabra neighborhood (mostly lebanese) who did. This issue is a class issue. Many lebanese are poor and have no other option but to build illegally to make room for their families who live very crowded and have been abandoned by the state who only takes from them but give them nothing in return but higher bills, less electricity and a worse living style.

@bilal_marakbi in case you haven't noticed, Lebanon is not a communist nor socialist country. Although I do agree with you that the state should supply basic services such as electricity, water, roads, etc., this by no means justifies illegal construction, nor the people's reaction to law enforcement officers. The law should be applied by all. Period.
