Aoun Reassures: Lessons Drawn from Latest Incidents

W460

President Michel Aoun reassured Friday that “lessons have been drawn from the latest incidents,” referring to three days of unrest and protests that followed leaked and harsh remarks by Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil against Speaker Nabih Berri.

“Things have returned to normal and the situations have been settled,” Aoun added, reiterating his call for “resolving all disputes with state institutions and not on the streets.”

The president's remarks come a day after he called Berri and agreed to meet him on Tuesday.

The two leaders have also agreed to put an end to the war of words between their two parties and a reconciliation meeting was held Friday in the town of Hadath, the scene of a major confrontation during the unrest.

In the leaked video that was shot during a closed Batroun meeting, Bassil calls Berri a "thug."

The footage drew the ire of Berri's aides and political allies, who lashed out at Bassil, with Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil calling the foreign minister “lowly” and a “political dwarf.”

Glad to see the shia house back in order considering Aoun made the FPM the 3rd shia force in Lebanon.
