Democratic Gathering parliamentary bloc leader MP Walid Jumblat, lashed out on Saturday at U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion of arming school teachers to deter mass shootings after a gun rampage that killed 17 people at a Florida high school.
"Instead of putting an end to the outbreak of weapons in his country, Trump wants to arm school teachers under the slogan of protecting students,” Jumblatt said on Saturday via Twitter.
He added “schools will then become battlefields and students may later be allowed to arm themselves. What a crazy world!”
On Thursday, Trump suggested arming teachers as he faced broken voices, tears and demands for action at a meeting with survivors of the gun rampage that killed 17 people at a Florida high school.
The televised White House meeting came as students staged street protests across the country to demand stricter gun laws following the murder of 14 teens and three teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
