The AMAL Movement on Tuesday urged its members and supporters to refrain from shooting firearms in the air to celebrate Speaker Nabih Berri's expected re-election on Wednesday.

“This practice usually results in losses in lives and properties and sparks panic among citizens, which would strip the occasion of its meaning,” the movement warned in a statement.

Calling on supporters to “express themselves in a civilized way,” AMAL cautioned that “the harshest disciplinary and organizational penalties would be taken against violators.”

It also urged judicial and security authorities to “pursue any violators and take legal measures against them.”

Supporters of Berri had fired in the air when he was elected in the past, which resulted in casualties and material damage in several neighborhoods.
