Berri: Hariri’s Stance on Syria Ties Impractical

W460

In light of conflicting views over restoring ties with Syria, Speaker Nabih Berri said Lebanon "needs to coordinate efforts" with the neighboring country, noting that he plans to call for a legislative session if a government is not formed soon.

In an interview with Al Intichar news website on Friday, Berri reacted to remarks made by Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri who refused inclusion of said ties in the government policy statement.

“This is unrealistic and unbeneficial,” said Berri, “there are diplomatic relations between the two countries, and a few months ago Hariri himself appointed an ambassador to Lebanon in Syria, not to mention the existence of a Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council."

The Speaker added: “Lebanon has recently asked Syria to provide it with electricity. Cooperation between the Lebanese and Syrian sides is particularly important in terms of the return of Syrian refugees to their country, not to mention that many issues would not have been achieved without Lebanese-Syrian coordination."

Berri hailed the “calm” remarks made by Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah where he indirectly replied to Hariri’s position in that regard.

Nasrallah has urged Hariri without naming him “not to rush things and commit himself to hostile positions rejecting this relationship because it contradicts with Lebanese interest in light of the regional happenings and the racing of the world to open up to the Syrian state.”

On the delayed Cabinet formation, Berri reiterated plans in front of his visitors to call for a legislative session if a government is not lined up soon.

After Hariri and his party agreed and voted for changing the electoral law and knowing in advance it would give the hezbollah treacherous coalition the majority in both parliament and the cabinet is he now telling us he did not see this coming?

Hariri has a typical Saudi closed mentality....many countries through history were at conflict , disputes even at war and now are friends, becaue if they remain unmoved then they would be kept isolated.

Example:
England >Germany; London was destroyed by Germany
Germany>France; Paris was burnt due to Nazi occupation.
Japan-Usa; Japan was Nuked by Usa.

the problem between Lebanon and Syria is less serious, Hariri has to buy another mentality.

do you even use your brain for a nano second before posting stuff?

Germany capitulated and Hitler dealt with + Nuremberg Trials. Yes, Bashar is a nazi like dictator but he's still around and we're still waiting for his trial to come.
Again, the Japanese emperor capitulated + the Tokyo Trials.

The day we obtain Justice is the day we can move forward with Syria but it obciously can't be with the Assads and Syria will have to compensate every Lebanese for its crimes. So no, Hariri - for once - has the right mentality and shows some dignity and respect the for victims of the Assads.

@POS

what about your shia mentality? Is that how they teach you History in iran ? Did England or France normalize relations with Germany with Hitler or his regime still in power? Same applies to USA and Japan.

You need to buy another brain but you cannot afford it, @POS!

Thumb janoubi 17 August 2018, 17:25

but when Syria was occupying Lebanon ya irani for 35 years you went out and demonstrated and said " Shukran Souriya" on March 8th?

Thank southern for being patriotic and for using the patriotic alias. It is one of my favorites for you.

I must thank you for showing forgiveness and friendship towards our brotherly neighbor Syria. You are misunderstood same like Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, was. To forgive when you are in a position of power is a sign of greatness and holiness and those zionists cannot comprehend your greatness.

You have proved to me once again your courage knows no limits and that you are prepared to sacrifice everything for the sake of the truth. Your ability to mix retro-futuristic historical events leaves no doubt in anyone's mind about your abilities.

Please, keep posting the World is Listening.

"not to mention the existence of a Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council." Actually it needs to be mentioned. Why does it still exist now that there are diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council is just one of the remnants of the Syrian occupation like Berri himself. Furthermore everything related to the dealings between Lebanon and Syrian can be addressed through the diplomatic channels, why the need for a special mention in the government policy statement.. unless it's to revive the Syrian hegemony on Lebanon.
