U.S. Ambassador Attends Live Air Fire Exercise, Bradley Delivery Ceremony

W460

Over the last year, the United States has delivered thirty-two Bradley Fighting Vehicles and associated ammunition, equipment, and training valued at more than $100 million to the Lebanese Armed Forces, the U.S. embassy said.

Thursday's live fire exercise hosted by the Air Assault Regiment “demonstrates the LAF’s (Lebanese Army's) ability to integrate these modern combat systems and combine its new protected mobility capabilities with A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft previously provided by the United States,” the embassy said in a statement.

The exercise was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard.

In August 2017, the Lebanese Army demonstrated its “impressive combat capabilities by defeating ISIS (Islamic State group) in Lebanon in Operation Dawn of the Hills. Now armed with modern attack aircraft and top-of-the-line armored fighting vehicles, the LAF is even more capable of defending Lebanon,” the embassy noted.

It added that the United States “remains committed to a secure, stable, democratic, and prosperous Lebanon.”

“With U.S.-provided weapons, equipment, and training, the LAF continues to develop combat capabilities that will ensure that the LAF remain a nationally unifying force, a bulwark against extremism and terrorism, and the only legitimate defender of Lebanon,” the embassy went on to say.

Thank you southern for being patriotic and for posting under the patriotic alias; one of several hundred aliases that you have.

Like you, I was outraged to learn the enemy who provided the Lebanese Army with more than $1.7 billion in military aid in the last 10 years was allowed to attend the ceremony!!! Our Armed Forces are being held hostage to criminal powers indeed.

I must thank you for continuing to selflessly point out the truth and without regard to the toll it is taking on your well being and credibility.

Finally, allow me to thank you for your contributions to humanity and to the Mentally Impaired Society of Lebanon.

All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to you dear southern.
To paraphrase Shakespeare, “We shall not see Your like Again.”

The worrisome thing here is that the Bradley may still be a state-of-the-art fighting vehicle (unlike LAF berets, which lag far behind the world standard), which Israel might have a hard time dealing with. So can Israel count on the LAF being unable to operate the Bradley, or will something have to be done to make sure it does not become operational? I shouldn't dismiss the possibility that the LAF will take this vehicle as a sign it should begin defending the country. Perhaps the best way to do that would be to hand the Bradleys over to Hezbullah. Or integrate Hezbullah into the LAF, as part of a "one-man, one-vote" constitutional realignment which dispenses with the set-aside of half of Parliament to "Christians".
