Mustaqbal Hits Back at Qassem, Abu Faour Speaks of Russian Initiative

Al-Mustaqbal Movement sources snapped back Thursday at Hizbullah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem over remarks he voiced about the controversial issue of representing the so-called independent Sunni MPs in the new government.

“The ball is in the court of the obstructors and the party responsible for obstruction is known by all Lebanese,” the sources told LBCI television.

“The PM-designate abides by the constitution and will not turn the formation process into an arena for obstacles… He has accomplished his mission of ironing out the hurdles and others must stop recycling obstacles,” the sources added.

Qassem had earlier announced that “the ball is in the court of the PM-designate.”

“He has the ability to iron out the obstacles and reach a reasonable and appropriate solution in order to represent the Consultative Gathering,” Hizbullah number two added.

MP Wael Abu Faour of the Progressive Socialist Party meanwhile told LBCI that “an expected Russian initiative towards Lebanon may reactivate the stalled cabinet formation process.”

Abu Faour was in Moscow on Wednesday along with MP Taymour Jumblat, the head of the PSP-led Democratic Gathering bloc.

The government was on the verge of formation on October 29 after the Lebanese Forces accepted the portfolios that were assigned to it but a last-minute hurdle over the representation of the Consultative Gathering – a grouping of pro-Hizbullah Sunni MPs.

Hizbullah has insisted that the MPs should be given a seat in the government, refraining from providing Hariri with the names of its own ministers in a bid to press him.

President Michel Aoun -- a Hizbullah ally – has thrown his support behind Hariri and rejected the demand during a TV interview.

The terrorists are greedy, but their ultimate goal is nothing more than surrendering our democracy to Iran for good... and beyond recovery.

Christians' democracy in Lebanon (Article 24 of the Constitution giving half of the seats in the Chamber of Deputies to Christians) is as safe and secure as the Jews' democracy in the Jewish state in Palestine.

Christians' democracy?

And mustaqbal aims to lead Lebanese state to pledge allegiance to KSA just like Hariri and co. did. Now some others want to sell Lebanon to Russia too! What a bunch of patriotic officials this tiny country got. God bless you

It would be nice if all the parties cared about Lebanon as much as they care about the countries supporting them, be it Syria, Iran, KSA etc...

Agreed 100%

Too true CanadianLeb but they tell a story about a Batrak back in the 50's who initially opposed a tax increase in Lebanon. Taxes were somewhat new to the average Lebanese and most disagreed with the principle of paying Tax. The wise Batrak at the time reminded those that it was better to have Lebanese pay the tax that supported the government knowing that the government would do the Lebanese things and go externally for its finance which is sadly what it has done since! every dime that is earned by the influence of another government is in reality buying up a share of Lebanon. Iran and KSA have shown how cheap the Lebanese honor and patriotism can be.

You're right.

Let's be honest here, if it wasn't for the presence of Hizbollah powerful forces in Lebanon, nobody would give a shit for your tiny nation! It would not be relevant at all. America would treat Lebanon like invisible, and KSA would waste not even one rial there! So thanks to Hizbollah you got so much attention from the world... KSA, America and Israel only care for Hizbollah threats not the people of Lebanon and we all know why
Lebanon would be invisible if wasn't the presence of Hizbollah weapons. Let's be realistic!
